Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

ASU is home to a wide spectrum of professors and teaching assistants (TAs). Many are nationally-recognized for their work, some have relocated from the Ivy League and other renowned institutions, and a few come across as less competent than the students they teach. Professors at ASU can make or break a class. They can inspire or jade a student to the school or to the college experience as a whole. More often than not, it’s the quality of instruction that dictates a student’s interest, and subsequently his or her grade in a class, above any other academic influence. Most of the complaints about professors have to do with language barriers or how uninteresting they are. However, those students who work hard and care about their grades generally have better things to say about the faculty. It seems that the small classes hold the student’s attention better, while the large lectures leave students feeling small and at times afraid to ask for help. One thing is definite, though: The professors are always available for help and will always make time for students who have questions.

Though the most immediate benefit of actively participating in your education is a better grade, it may also open the doors to independent-study opportunities or other important prospects. Everyone will agree that the academics are feasible, yet challenging, if you have the ambition and mindset to both work hard and attain the goals you set. The ASU experience, like anything else in life, is about 10 percent your situation and 90 percent your attitude toward it.

Engineering Is Very Personal and Focused

At the Polytechnic campus, for those who are in the Engineering program, students get to construct, program, design and test projects in their classrooms. These are self-driven projects and the Professors do an amazing job helping to assist the students, as they are working as well.

The workload is fair, and the facilities provide all the tools needed to succeed- physical tools or educational.

My professors and advisors also constantly send me information about job opportunities and internships with big companies like Intel, IBM, Honeywell and other corporations.

SPECTACULAR!

Great Help Depending on the Campus

I attend a smaller satellite campus of ASU which is lesser recognized but in my opinion, very valuable! The Polytechnic campus of ASU is a small reserved campus which has classes of only 30 students, and lectures of 80. I think the Polytechnic campus has a propelling learning environment. Professors know students by name and recognize them around campus and are always willing to talk. The education is very hands-on, helping to teach all of the students in the most effective manner. A+

The Tempe, or Main campus, of ASU is much larger and has significantly more students than teachers. This means the learning is less personal and there isn't as much of a hands-on experience in the classrooms. A-

Psych offers a lot of different and exciting programs to their students. The Psychology professors are very knowledgeable and they are always available to talk before or after class or during their office hours.
