Online Courses
As ASU became one of the first universities to partner with Google in order to provide students with applications for their education, many online courses have sprung up in response to this movement. Now, with approximately 40 different online degrees that can be earned, ASU has opened a variety of classes that will help students complete the degrees they are interested in pursuing. Students can earn degrees in business, liberal arts and sciences, engineering, and even some graduate-level programs. Since the base of learning is concentrated online, a lot of the work is done using an interactive program provided by ASU called Blackboard. On this site, students participate in online coursework in the form of homework, essays, and tests monitored by programs that detect cheating. Likewise, online courses allow interaction between students and teachers by communicating through video, e-mail, and lectures that allow the professors and students to talk throughout the entirety of the lecture. While students will get little to no face time with one another, they will be able to at least form somewhat of a relationship with their professors depending on how outgoing a student is. Email is the primary form of communication between the student and teacher. Regardless of some disadvantages that come with pursuing an online degree or courses, the time it frees up for students is really helpful and many choose to go this route so they can take care of other business.
