Clearly ASU has a reputation for having great late-night extracurricular activities, and with that comes consequences that students need to take into consideration. Many students are able to steer clear of any confrontations with ASU authority or campus police because a lot of people know how to work the system. It's pretty simple for most if you can keep your cool and not get out of hand while drinking or engaging in drug use. On-campus residents have experienced the ups and downs of choosing to drink in the dormitories, and getting caught really depends on the individual. CAs will randomly check up on students or violate a shindig because of "noise complaints," so the amount of fun you will be having on your floor really depends on the CA in charge. Since ASU is a "dry" campus, drugs and alcohol are not tolerated whatsoever on campus. However, students take little to no consideration of these policies. Depending on the officer, the night, and the occasion, campus police and security are pretty decent when it comes to partying and all the alcoholism/drug use that comes with it. They certainly crack down on students who make it apparent that they are intoxicated and reckless, but if you can keep it low key, the officials will never know.
ASU consistently has the largest enrollment rate in the nation, which makes policing everyone difficult. Therefore, campus strictness is definitely implicated but does not always follow through because the ratio of students to authorities is not balanced, making it more of a challenge to crack down on everything that goes down in the dorms, house parties, fraternities, clubs, etc. With that said, pursuing an exciting social life is definitely manageable if you know what you're doing. If you can't keep it together, you will be guaranteed a "minor in consumption" (MIC), DUI, or any other infraction, so play it safe.
