College Prowler Take
Professors commonly e-mail students with updates, assignments, and reminders. They also use the Blackboard system online to post grades, announcements, and the syllabus. Students normally check their accounts every day if not multiple times a day, so owning a computer is advisable, but it is by no means a necessity. There are several computer labs located on campus, the largest of which is the Computing Commons, a multi-story facility that houses the Computer Science Department. Any classroom on campus can be reached in no more than ten minutes from the Computing Commons, and there are nearly 200 machines available to students on the ground floor. Though the Computing Commons is large and accommodating, there is often a short wait to access a computer. ASU has only recently begun to charge eight cents per page to print on their machines, a small price to pay when you’ve left the day’s assignment at home or saved it for the very last minute. The most widely spoken problem with the computers at ASU is that there simply are not enough. With the plethora of students attending ASU, peak times of the day bring long lines and long waits to the computer labs. The good news is that ASU computers offer an incredible list of complimentary software, and the network is fast and reliable. The best thing is that the entire campus is wireless. You can use any of the ASU computers or bring your laptop to class without fear of no connection.

Just Know Where and When to Go.
B+
If you know when and where to go, you should be fine. If you go to the Computing Commons or Coor hall, both will be crowded at crunch times, but you should still be able to find afew free computers. Don't even bother going to the Hayden Library to get one- EVER.

I am a Computer Science major and...
I am a Computer Science major and there is a 24-hour lab that ASU takes great care of. As for the other computer labs on campus, Coor is not bad–there are newer computers there. In the computer commons, use the Apples and you will be alright. I would give the Computer Science department an A+, and the school overall a B-.

The computers on campus are really...
The computers on campus are really trustworthy and fast; I never experience the same problems as when I’m on my PC. The ongoing problem is finding one during the busy times of the day. Anyone can tell you to just use it during less busy times, but that’s when most of us can’t find the time, which is why the labs are busy in the first place. I say get a laptop! |

There are a few big computer labs...
There are a few big computer labs that are the most popular, but there’s also a bunch of small ones, as well as many computers within classrooms. These are hardly as busy and nobody really knows about them. I know all the secret spots! It’s not hard to find a computer if you stay away from the huge labs. Those are pointless, like paying an extra three dollars to take the busier peek train! If you go to the small ones, the printing is free too. Shh, don’t tell anyone! |

Depending on when I go to computer...
Depending on when I go to computer labs, they can be crowded. Even the evenings are hit or miss. The best time seems to be early morning, or late afternoon. Lunchtime is usually when people are in between classes and it’s the busiest. The computers are fast though. |
