Usually it's best to start looking for an apartment about six months in advance so you can get the scope of what you and your potential roommates are looking to live in. By spring semester of your freshman year, it would be good to begin looking for a place to stay since most people move out of their dorms after freshman year and go on to off-campus housing locations.
