I'm Glad I Went – I am happy I was able to attend AWC for a short time. It helped me know what to expect during university after I leave high school.

What Makes AWC a Good College – The people at AWC are very nice and friendly and will usually go out of their way to help you if you're new. In fact, the professors are excellent at teaching the students new things. I really enjoyed the English classes because my professor was outstanding.

Most Are Active – Mostly, my school consists of active people. Whether they're playing a sport or working full-time jobs. Some even play a sport and work a part-time job. Our students have to manage their time well and keep up with everything.

Decent Resources – My campus has pretty good resources for being a community college. There aren't many students living on campus, but the dorms could use some updating. The new Campus Community Center is very nice, but looks like it's covered in aluminum foil (not good in sunny Yuma, AZ).

Not Too Diverse – Most students in my school are the people from my town who couldn't afford to go to a major university. The student body is mostly made up of lower-middle class students.

Very Convenient! Online courses have taken a lot of the stress off of college life. Theres no worrying about arriving on time and theres way less pressure. I don't even have to worry about what I look like when I go to school, because I'm not even leaving my house!

Where Are the Classes? For my major there are not a lot of classes. Yous have to be enrolled as a media arts major not a photography major

Network Has Issues – The computer network is good, the only bad thing is that they need more computers and not have the schools web page crash a lot.
College Junior 2012-08-16T14:33:41Z
Campus Resourses Not So Useful – My school offices r not help because when i need help with something the counselors, the student workers are not so helpful. Most of the times the student workers do not know an answer to a question, their bosses are never there to answer your questions and they do no contact you even if u do send an email. Also most of the time they do mess up your paperwork.

You Must Transfer – If you wish to continue past an associates degree you must transfer to a university or a university branch in Yuma and pay they university fees

Nice Pool – The pool and the Gym are pretty nice, however you must be enrolled in a fitness class to use either of them. while at other schools usually you must only be attending the school to use these facilities. So that is an extra cost you must incur if you wish to use them. There isnt much else to do on campus if you live in the dorms. And The college is about 9 miles from town and far from other activities in the area

Sketchy Teachers – Some teachers are really great and some are not so. You have to ask around to see which is the best teacher for each subject and check ratemyprofessor.com. Registration is alright and they have made everything very simple and easy being that it is all in one area. The program selection is vast and ever changing with the Universities starting opportunities in Yuma

Hard Classes No Pay Off – I am an Engineering major. My classes are challenging when it comes to math and science. I do learn a lot in those classes and I feel like I will use that information in the future. But the actual "engineering" classes have no standard and leave me unprepared to be an engineer in any field. Location is a very big issue as well. There are not a lot of internship opportunities in town.

I Am Not to Familiar, but I Have Heard It Is Good. I have not had the chance yet or the need to visit the career center at my school. I know that it is there and the facilities are exceptional. Most students that I have heard speak of said place say that they were most helpful.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
Gets Easier and Easier – I have been trying to complete my degree now since 1996. The first time I went to apply, I walked away from the whole expirence tired and confused. Granted this was when the internet was only gaining force and EVERYTHING was done verbally and with paper. But, when I decided to go back and actually finish school this time, the process was simple, quick, and easy. Those who do work for the financial aide office are alway willing and ready to answer all of my questions. I am happy that this is so simple and it keeps me from having to stress about it one week before school starts.

To Many Out of State Students – The city of Yuma, Arizona thrives on local high school sports. From football to soccer, the community gets behind its local athlestes. Something that makes it difficult for community support and support from within the school is that the athletic departmeant will usually go outside of the city and the state to find the players. This, at the begining and sometimes carries over into the whole year, puts a strain between those living on campus, who for the most part are from out of town, and those that are commuting to the campus locally.

Great Networks – There is never any much difficulties finding the network whether it is on your personal device or the school's.

EDUCATION MAJOR – As an education major, I will have to transfer schools eventually in order to complete my degree. Other than that, it has been a very rewarding experience.

Solar Power Program – AWC has just been given a federal grant to continue its research in solar engery. The campus is covered in the large rotating solar panels that serve a dual purpose as covered parking. Our campus has an amazing farming and agriculture division since Yuma area is a farming community. They also offer a great deal of career degree programs such as Nursing, Fire Fighter and EMT. The campus is older but they have just built 2 new buildings are making improvements as per funding allows. We have a great athletic department. Our football team made it to the Bowl game this year.

The campus of AWC has wi-fi available campus wide. There are computer labs but it is difficult to get into them during sememter closing. I so have a laptop and I take it with me and never have a problem connecting unless there is a desert storm.

Very Diverse Campus – AWC has a very diverse group of students. The population in our locale is mostly hispanics. The average age of students covers a wide range anywhere from 17-50 years of age. Our school is great at working with low income and older students to receive financial help. Most students that live on campus are athletes since there are only 3 dorms available. Socials and campus events such as Family Night and Career Fair are just a few events. The campus itself is home to NAUyuma as well and offers classes for University transfer degree programs. AWC also offers many career and technical trade programs such as Nursing, Massage Therapy, A/C, Mechanics and Electrical just to name a few. Students at AWC are career oriented and striving to be the best.

School Is Spread Out – The parking situation is very difficult there are too many students and not enough student parking along with faculty parking ( Im also an Instructor)
The gym needs to be overhauled and weight room improvements. The new student center is amazing and having a starbucks on campus is great!

Tuition & Financial Aid:
Financial Aid is good thing. But, if you are military and moving from one duty station to another and get paid for your move. Financial Aid will add the money the government give you to move to your income. And personal I don't think that is fair because that is not money that you would normally have in your income. Financial Aid should have some different rules for that type of thing.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
