Campus Events/Traditions
  • AWC Job Fair: AWC holds a job fair organized by the Career Development office, to expose job and career opportunities to students. Local businesses, the army, the National Guard, and others participate in the event.
  • Family Night: This event aims to get the Yuma community involved with college activities. Career options are introduced to the participants, and each club will set up booths to provide information about their club. Music, food, drinks, and entertainment accompany the event.
  • Homecoming Week: This event takes place in the middle of the semester. Homecoming king and queen are chosen through votes, with candidates running their campaign during the week. A parade takes place, and each participating club decorates its golf cart for the event. The nicest golf cart is chosen, and results for the Homecoming king and queen are announced during the party that concludes the event.
  • New Student Orientation: During this event, each department (including Enrollment Services, Information Technology Services, Health Services, Campus Police, Campus Life, and Student Success Center) prepares an orientation session for incoming students. Students have to choose between a morning session and an afternoon session. College student representatives called "Matador Ambassadors" have to guide the different groups of students through the different sessions. This event is informative as well as fun.
  • Welcome Bash: The Welcome Bash is a party that concludes the New Student Orientation day. There is food, games, entertainment, and dancing. It usually goes from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Unique Features
AWC Solar Array: According to the "Guinness Book of World Records," Yuma, Ariz. is the sunniest place on earth. Based on this climate, the College is able to have a solar array on the rooftop of the Agriculture and Science building, which generates enough energy to cover nearly 100 percent of the College's daytime energy usage.
