Getting into programs here at Tech was not difficult at all. Once you take classes that pertain to your area of interest and you decide that you love it, all you have to do is go to the registor's office and declare your major. From there you are assigned an advisor that you helps you make your schedule. Advisor's turn into mentor's and people who help you through your college years. They provide good advice in your field and with your personal life.

There is a decent amount of Scholarships at Arkansas Tech, but not as many as I had hoped. And accquiring these scholarships is not easy either. I would suggest making regular appointments with advisors and mentors to see what new scholarships become available.

The Weather here in Arkansas is very unpredictable. The day may start out sunshiny and turn rainy in a few hours. most of the time though you can guess what the days are going to be like. However, I suggest you carry a small umbrella in your backpack at all times. You never know when it will turn to rainy cloudy weather.

The dining at Arkansas Tech is very good. If you wish to not eat in the cafe because you have eaten there a lot there is options like Chick-fil-A, which-which (a sandwhich place), then there is a chinease place and even a burger place to eat at on campus. The prices are reasonable and you can even grab a starbucks coffee on the way to class to help jumpstart your day.

The off-campus housing selection at my school is very nice. It includes apartements to which you have three other roommates. You share a kitchen, washer and dryer, and you have a nice patio area weather you live upstairs or downstairs. The Ra's are very respectable and easy to get along with.

I do not typically see drugs or alcohol present on campus, but it is still available to the student body. Just in passing, one can hear the student body talking about what they were able to access and how they used it.

The parking here is free, but there is not alot of it. One has to be early for class to be able to find a spot, and even then, one would still have a substantial walk. One would think that with the continual increase in tuition each spring, that parking lots would be a priority.

The process of getting into the Early Education was quite easy, but getting into the Special Education aspect of it is quite hard. It is hard to find somenone that can advise me on the steps I need to take to further my degree. Most professors are interested in getting me to sign up with what is best for the college, not for me. One tip that I could offer to prospective Special Education teachers is to do quite a bit of searching; you need to know exactly what you need to further your degree or getting help is next to impossible.

There are a lot of international students on this campus and I never see any problems between them and regular residents of the United States. Every group or difference that a person has is accepted here. The majority of the population are white and African American but there is still a large percentage of other races and many clubs to join too!

The off-campus houseing here at ATU is pretty much walking distance from the school. They are big apartments and affordable for most. It is easier to get one of these accomodations as long as you have a certian amount of credits or an upper classman. There is tons of parking at the apartments that are available, even enough for friends or relatives.

Edible but Why Would You? The food on campus is okay, theres really nothing spectacular about it. Some days you get lucky and get a great meal, but most days the food is gross and repetitive. Who wants burgers and pizza every day? I would personally love to see some healthier options other than just salad so we can all beat the 15 pound gain every year. We do have DCB bucks that we can use at the campus store and the four on campus fast food places. The fast food places are okay but their all just greasy, and grease every day is not healthy.

There are several different races on campus, but they each usually stick to their own race. Most people on campus attend a form of worship service offered by the surrounding churchs. We do have an on campus club for everyone of every sexual orientation, but there is some hostility towards it, as there would be anywhere. I am sure there are different political beliefs around campus but I have yet to find any.

Parking on campus is rough at times, and theres always a chance you will be late to class by trying to find a spot. If you live off campus be sure to get there a good 20 to 30 minutes early, and if you live on campus then don't drive once you have a spot. The school is creating more parking spots so I believe it will improve in the years to come.

Health & Safety:
Changing Times – Although there has been several incidents, they are really cracking down to ensure the safety of students. Public Safety is now offering a convenient escort system for students going across campus at night. I have never felt endangered and there are lot of lighted side walks.

Improvement Needed – I love ATU but the school spirit needs to be drawn up a few notches and the cocky attitudes of our athletes need to be brought down a few.

Finding the Fun – Russellville offers the small town feel with plenty to do. Although there aren't any great clubs or shopping malls, we are located about an hour from Fort Smith and Little Rock. There is a new music venue and The Forty is open on Thursday nights for college night. There are many fantastic, local restaurants to try try. If you enjoy the outdoors, we are close to the lake and several mountains for camping and hiking. We have over 50 organizations and most are great to be a part of. The atmosphere has been dramatically improving! Public Safety has gotten much stronger and the campus is more secure. There are a number of international students. Although our teams don't always win, we serve good competition in our conference and support our teams. If I were to change the university, I would say they need to expand on tailgating and improve on school spirit.

Arkansas Tech Universtiy has a very wide range of Majors ranging from Psychology to Parks and Recreation. It is the only University in Arkansas that has an accredited Parks and Recreation program. If I could do it all over again I would. My goals after receiving my bachelor's degree is to find as job as a Game Warden or Park Ranger. I do not have any concerns about find a job. By the time I get out of college a lot of high - up people will be retiring and a lot of low - end people will be moving up. Leaving a lot of empty entry - level positions.

Health & Safety:
Not as Good as It Should Be – In my opinion, Arkansas Tech University does not have a good safety system. Last year there was at least three rapes and a couple of assaults. I always carry a knife with me. I don't want to sound mean, I have respect for the safety officers, it's just that they only seem to be around when there is alcohol or school events.
College Senior 2012-09-09T01:28:25Z
Since Arkansas Tech University is in a dry county there are no bars or clubs that I know of. There are a few restaurants that have alcohol permits though. A lot of the campus organizations do have parties and there are a few parties and celebrations every now and then.
College Senior 2012-09-09T01:25:51Z
I Walk Everywhere – I do not use the transportation system at all. I walk everywhere I need to go, except when I go off campus. However i didn't notice that Arkansas Tech University even had a transportation system until late in my freshmen year. There is really no need for it anyway. Most of the students either live on campus or far away where they have to drive.

Its nothing special. There is football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, and cross country. And none of these games will ever be on ESPN or anything so its really just something to go to on saturdays.
College Sophomore 2012-09-05T19:21:08Z
I think there are 2 shuttle buses for the entire school. And they arent anything like Fayettevilles, they are like creepy rapist vans. I would rather walk anywhere then get in those things.
College Sophomore 2012-09-05T19:17:15Z
This place is the bomb. It isnt part of the fast-food chain, it is independently owned and they give you more for your money. I would strongly encourage anyone to go try it.

Greek life isnt that big of a deal. If you don't join you don't your not different from anybody else.

The dorms for underclassmen are newer but they arent as fun as the upperclassmen dorms even though the underclassmen dorms are in the heart of the campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
