Can anyone tell me about Wittel Dorms? Good and bad, thank you.
Hey, sorry I'm so late to respond! But I lived in Wittel my freshman year. Some people really liked it, and others absolutely hated it. I, however, was indifferent. It's a beautiful building with huge rooms, but it has strict policies. If you want a place that will tolerate no nonsense, Wittel's the place for you. You sign a contract with your lease promising you will follow all the house rules. This includes no alcohol in your room, even though it's not a university dormitory building and you're over 21. Also, it's almost impossible for a guy to spend the night, and isn't worth the risk. There are cameras in the halls and if you get caught with a guy in your room you are most likely evicted. You could have a male friend visit in the common rooms until 10 on week nights and midnight on Friday and Saturday as long as he wasn't in your room with the door closed. With that being said, you couldn't have a guy in your room alone, even if you had a room to yourself and he was your brother spending the weekend. Sometimes, there are room inspections, for what items you have in your room. You'll get in some trouble for even having things like empties. Also, cameras were put in because there were issues with girls stealing each other's money and things, but I suppose that can happen anywhere. The house Mom or RA usually came around to check that these rules were being followed, but at other times they were both impossible to get in contact with. If that's the kind of environment you're looking for, then you'll love it. I think it's a good place for your first year: it's a quick walk to campus, it's not cramped like a usual dorm, and the bathrooms are kept pretty clean and nice... until you run out of toilet paper and are SOL for two days. Literally. :P
If someone tells you the place is horrible, it's because they're spoiled and can't appreciate all the positives of the nice spacious building. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me at kds0027@auburn.edu
Good luck! :)
