School Slang
  • The Concourse: The long brick pathway leading up to and behind the Haley Center.
  • The Extension: On-campus apartments.
  • Foy: The Student Union. Foy is often used for club meetings. Larger events are also held in the auditorium. Students are always seen around Foy, especially going in and out of the War Eagle Food Court.
  • The Hill: On campus dorms located adjacent to the Quad
  • Jordan-Hare: The AU football stadium. An integral part of an Auburn student's time in college.
  • Momma G's: The quintessential Auburn sub shop
  • The Quad: The central on-campus housing area
  • The Quad Center: Where people are dropped off and picked up from the Quad, a central meeting place, location of laundry room and mail room for Quad residents.
  • The Student Act : The Student Activities Center, where students can work out, participate in intramurals, and see various campus events.
  • Toomer's Corner: Where Auburn fans and students "roll" a tree on the corner of College St. and Magnolia Ave. after every athletics win
  • The Village: Brand new, apartment-style dorms; also hosts all on-campus Panhellenic sororities
  • War Eagle: Most famous Auburn greeting and cheer. "War Eagle" has various legendary origins and is known for it's frequent use within the Auburn family.
Traditions
  • Hey Day: A day when students all over campus are given a nametag and everyone says hello to each other that day. Hey Day is meant to promote the fact that Auburn's campus is so friendly.
  • Homecoming: Homecoming is a special day for current Auburn students and alumni alike. Homecoming is celebrated in the fall with lots of celebration, a big football game, and the outcome of the Miss Homecoming contest.
  • Nova: Before each home game starts, fans simultaneously shout one big, "War Eagle," as Nova, the Bald Eagle, circles the stadium several times and then lands on the field.
  • Rolling Toomer's Corne: The most ostentatious and well-liked tradition at Auburn is that of rolling Toomer's Corner. After every win during the football season, the people of Auburn gather in the streets and toss rolls of toilet paper all over the large tree that stands on Toomer's Corner. During especially big wins against other large SEC teams, the entire corner is covered-the tree, the streets, and even the traffic lights are buried in toilet paper.
Urban Legends
  • Playboy magazine ranked Auburn's girls in the top 10 in the nation.
  • Rumor has it that if an Auburn student steps foot on the university seal, located in front of Langdon Hall, then that student will not graduate from Auburn.
  • The Chapel, located on the corner of College Street and Thach Avenue, is haunted by an old Confederate soldier who was killed during the Civil War.
Favorite Things To Do
Auburn is very laid-back and students can usually be seen hanging out with friends or studying around campus. There is always a campus event going on-whether it's a sports game or something put on by one of various campus organizations. Students also frequent the game room in the New Student Center, the Quad to play Frisbee or flag football, and the Intramural Fields or Student Act to work out. Go to a sporting event-Football is huge at Auburn, and every weekend during fall semester focuses on Saturdays in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn students are known for their spirit and support of athletics. Baseball and basketball are also very popular. See a play-Auburn has an excellent theatre program. A variety of plays and musicals are presented throughout fall and spring semesters, and prices are usually discounted for students. Performances are held at the Telfair-Peet Theatre, which is located across from the Hill Dormitories. Work Out-Auburn students are a fit bunch! The Student Activities Center boasts various weight and cardio rooms, basketball and volleyball courts, an aquatics center, and exercise rooms to take classes such as yoga and Pilates. Auburn is also a beautiful campus to run or jog through. A new state-of-the-art recreation center is under construction and will be available for student use during the 2011-2012 school year. Enjoy the weather-Auburn students frequently take advantage of the nice Alabama weather. Fancy a little competitiveness? Play some Frisbee in the Quad or a pick-up soccer game on the Intramural Fields. Want to relax? Take a walk in the Arboretum or down to Toomer's Corner for some famous lemonade.
