Augustana really stresses diversity, which is awesome. They always recruit a ton of international students on campus, which makes up for the lack of diversity among traditional students (we ARE in South Dakota, remember!). They also really encourage studying abroad and help you every step of the way. As far as political beliefs go, there are both Democrat and Republican clubs with heavy student followings, so I'd say it's pretty open/accepting. Being a Lutheran school, most students come from a Christian background, but no one is looked down upon or treated differently if their beliefs are different.

Tons of majors, I think around 56, which is a lot for a small college. Professors are great and are always interested in you and your success. College classes are the same as everywhere, some are great some are duds.Coming from a pretty intense high school, I didn't think the workload was super hard, but it is considered more rigorous and you will have to actually study during the week.

The Education program at Augustana is very good. It's one of the big programs on campus, along with nursing and biology. Professors are pretty good and always super friendly and helpful, but classes tend to be redundant. They are good about getting you practicums in school and preparing you to be a future teacher.

Augie provides lots of amazing things for students to do on campus for free. Almost every Friday and Saturday night the Union Board of Governors hosts an event. These events range from Movies to bands to dances. UBG also hosts a Big Event every year, and this year they are actually having two! The Elmen also host late night activities which include Family Feud, Ice Skating, Roller Skating, and even a Haunted House. Augie also has a great Library for studying and group projects. They also have movie making facilities and music recording facilities in the Library.

Augie has the Augieholics, which is a large group on campus dedicated to cheering on the sports teams. Everyone is encouraged to get an Augieholics t-shirt, and pretty much everyone does. Home sporting events always draw huge student crowds. Also, the Elmen Center has great workout facilites, and amazing events.

A lot of it depends on the PA on your floor. If you have a laid back PA you can do pretty much whatever you want.

Good variety in the liberal arts, but business and sciences are limited in emphases.

There are a lot of fun events put on by clubs on the weekends like concerts or late night ice skating or free movie night at a local theatre. That said, after midnight it often dies unless you personally know of a party.

Not Exactly Existent – There is no Greek Life at Augustana. They do have Theme Houses, however, which are pretty fun. They've cracked down a lot on them this year, but they're still a great opportunity for community and service.

We are currently under a blizzard warning until tomorrow at noon. That said, it's usually not that extreme. The wind's the worst part. I remember last year at this time we could wear capris. The weather varies a lot. One week it can be in the negatives and the next in the 40s. Also, compared to my home in MN, the temp can vary more during a day since there aren't as many bodies of water to stabilize it.

Sioux Falls is a great city. There is enough to keep you entertained but not so much that it is overwhelming. It never takes longer than 20 minutes to get from one location to the next but at the same time the city is not extremely small. There is a big mall, several movie theaters, and an arena with a recreation center on the way. Sioux Falls is growing quickly but it is still a very safe place and a great place to raise children.

I have yet to take any actual nursing classes but so far I have enjoyed the prerequisites for my major. All except for chemistry that is. If I could do it all over again I would think about a less challenging major. I hope to graduate and work at the Sanford children's hospital. I have no worries about finding a job. There is always room for more nurses.

While there are a wide variety of people from different religions and ethnically backgrounds, the majority of the student body is white middle class Christians.

I'm an Education major, which is a pretty large program here-also a very good one. Throughout the program, you're involved in a variety of practicums where you observe and help out in local schools. The classes are a little repetitive but that's probably true of many education programs. The professors are great. They are always willing to help, and they actually know you and talk to you! I'm a secondary education major, so they only thing that I wish there was more of was content specific classes related to education (there's one content/methods class).

There are a lot of computer labs on campus. The library has a lot and there is one in almost every academic and dorm building. There's WIFI all across campus and for the most part I don't have problems with it. Even with all of the computers, most students bring their own laptops. It's helpful in classes and just to be able to use it whenever.

Health & Safety:
I've always felt pretty safe on Augie's campus. Campus safety is always around and are willing to escort you to your dorm/house if it's late at night.

They give out a pretty good amount of financial aid here, which was a big factor for me choosing Augie. Most people get at least some sort of scholarship, whether it's academic, athletic, or music.

Since the school's in the Midwest, it can be -20 or 95. I'm used to it so it doesn't bother me, the only thing that gets bad is the wind.

Our school has implemented an unlimited meal plan so one could go into the commons at any time and pick up a meal or snack. There is a large variety of options from a bowl of cereal to custom ordered noodles, like in HuHot. The food is prepared fresh every day.

The surrounding area has many opportunities for off-campus dining. One could walk to multiple fast-food restaurants. On Sunday evenings a local Buffalo Wild Wings applies an Augustana Student discount with proof of being a student here.

Athletics at Augustana College are a big deal. We have a wonderful athletic complex with many a room for a variety of athletic endeavors (e.g. rooms for handball, a large main gym, a swimming pool, a weight room). Football and basketballs games always cause hype around campus as students make plans to gather in the gym or stadium to support the teams. The student section is always devoted and loud. Our teams are above average, but not quite excellent. The players are widely known for their academic integrity, however.

There are a lot of parking spots and the cost for parking on campus is cheap, but the layout of the parking lots are not very good. They are very tight, so it makes backing up with a larger vehicle a little difficult.

Guys & Girls:
Everyone is extremely friendly and willing to become friends with a new person on campus. The girl to guy ratio is extremely high, which creates some drama, though.

I am an Anthropology and Classics major. With my Anthropology major I have to spend a year at the University of Exeter in the England. Also, any major that I know of is really flexible if you want to travel abroad.

I grew up with the weather from the Midwest so South Dakota weather is what I am used to. It is warm to hot in the summer/spring. Snow in the winter and maybe sometime is late fall and early spring. Fall here is beautiful with all the changing leaves.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
