We have a The Huddle on the main floor of the commons, but with our new meal plan, I feel like it doesn't get used as much as it did last year, at least not by me. Also, with the new meal plan when you want to go to the commons to get food it is usually packed with people.

I love the friends I have made here and also love my professors and classes. But Augie is a dry campus, yet some people drink anyway and I wish that people would actually uphold the rules of what a dry campus means.

Parking for the freshman dorms and campus houses and apartments is generally really good. In the upperclassmen dorms, however, it's a huge problem. A parking pass (which is pretty expensive) doesn't guarantee you a parking spot. A parking pass can, however, guarantee you a ticket if you choose to park in areas such as the GSC or Our Savior's Lutheran (church) parking lots. You pretty much need a car to do anything in Sioux Falls (public transportation isn't great) but if you don't, most people do and will give you a ride. Campus safety will also give you a ride to the clinic (if you ever need one) and jumpstart your car in the winter, which is nice.

Augie has lots of old buildings that have been remodeled/renovated in recent years. The athletic facilities, library, and Madsen center are all relatively new. The science center is really outdated but the school is making efforts to build a new one. Upperclassmen dorms have recently been renovated, but freshman dorms are seriously lacking. The commons area is also outdated and tends to be cramped. Study spaces can be limited/noisy once the library closes. Overall there are some outdated facilities but the college is making noticeable efforts to improve and update.

Augie is a small private school in the upper midwest so it's not surprising that it's comprised largely of white upper-middle class suburban kids. However, they do make a solid effort to bring in international students and create opportunities for students to learn about other cultures. As a whole the campus is pretty open minded towards other races, religions, and lifestyles- especially for a Christian school. In my experience, however, the school has a habit of sacrificing student quality for diversity. As a student I do appreciate a diverse student body but I don't like to see the academic environment compromised as a result.

Health & Safety:
I don't think I have ever felt unsafe on campus. Campus safety offers rides to students when it is late at night so they don't have to walk alone. There all poles along the path for a student to call campus safety if they need them. They also work along side Sioux Falls police.

We have a dry campus, but you hear about alcohol everywhere. There are always students who are drunk on the weekend. The school dances are where they mostly show up drunk. Many students get busted for having alcohol in the dorms but peer pressure isn't too big.
College Senior 2012-11-08T21:23:27Z
It is windy all the time. There doesn't seem to be too much rain or snow, but the wind can get really bad at times, which makes it feel colder than it really is.

They throw parties and then get mad when the party gets busted, and since we have a dry campus they can get in big trouble for that.

Drugs and alcohol use at Augustana College are very low. There are parties here and there but overall it is a very clean environment.

My major is not to terrible. I am also doing things in prep for PT school and those are the difficult things. Getting a high GPA and taking a vast amount of classes ( Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, English)

The work load is a lot. It is very high because we are one of the top colleges in the country. We have a high graduation rate and job placement percentage. Campus is not huge. Many things to do, clubs to join. Professors very intelligent.

I just enrolled in my major. Nothing special had to happen. Once I was accepted to the college.

It gets cold, and no one really likes that... but most students who have chosen to go to school in South Dakota aren't from very tropical climates anyway. The weather might not be ideal year-round, but students here have lived in this weather all their lives.

International students are well represented at Augustana, but social interaction among them and other students is small.

its really cool.students are clever but beside involve in many extracurricular activities.
Recent Alumnus 2012-10-21T06:50:03Z
the college is really strict about drug abuse by the students
Recent Alumnus 2012-10-21T06:44:50Z
well,Augi is not so strict it allow the students to be free but also regulate the school to make sure the students have proper fun and education acceptable as a college.

the sports and athletics in Augi is really good and i like it so much.it is well equipped with all the necessary things and materials.
College Junior 2012-10-05T20:10:39Z
The winters are VERY cold!! But classes hardly ever get cancelled. Often groups will hang out in the dorms, or in the commons. The social life is not really affected by the weather. When it is nice out, everyone studies outside on the green :)

As a psychology major I absolutely love the program at Augie. Our profs are the craziest ones on campus, and we are just starting to really grow as a major. Currently, changes to the major program are underway, and a Psyc club has just been started! We are hoping to get more people on campus involved in our activites.

Health & Safety:
Augustana has a very good campus safety staff, and works in collaboration with the sioux falls police department. Getting busted for drinking is typically the only thing we get in trouble with around campus.
College Junior 2012-10-05T19:57:31Z
Augustana does not have Greek Life, however we do have theme houses on campus. If you apply to live in a theme house, you are committing to a year long service project designed by the residents of the house.

Our dining hall has a pretty decent selection of food, and it seems to be about average in quality. Our new dining plan is called "the unlimited", which means between the hours of 7 am to 7 pm, you can enter the dining hall and eat as many times as you would like. We also have a coffee shop on campus called The Huddle, you can buy coffee, muffins, sandwiches, etc here. You can pay with "viking bucks" which are just money that you put on your ID card, or you can pay with cash or credit card. All in all, it is not a bad system.
College Junior 2012-09-17T20:03:16Z
They changed the meal plan this year to unlimited. This may sound good, but it in fact limits the choices you have. You pretty much can only go to the cafeteria unless you want to pay for Viking Dollars or pay out of pocket.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
