There's a heavy archaeology focus on the anthro program here at Augie, which is great for people who want to work in that field, but not unmanageable for others. The coolest thing is that as part of the anthro program, students are required to study abroad at Exeter College in the UK.

There are a lot of international students, but besides them, most of the population is white folks from a four-state region.

Augustana accepts federal aid and their Fin Aid office is very good about getting you set up with that. They also will guide you in finding scholarships from churches and organizations that they have connections with. There are academic, musical, artistic, theater, and athletic scholarships available. They also have a neat deal for students who do summer camps. The only downside to the scholarship programs at Augie is that you are required to live on campus and to get a meal plan otherwise there's a penalty.

Augie will tell you that they are a Mac school, but most of the computers you'll find in the dorms are PC. I personally prefer PCs. Printing is unlimited and accessible throughout the campus and I think we've got wifi in all the buildings too now.

I LOVE Sioux Falls. There are plenty of outdoor activities (though not the boating culture that MN has), a downtown area, a sizable mall and beautiful landmarks. It's not a metropolis, but coming from a metro area, I don't feel like I'm missing a whole lot.

Less Drugs and More Alchocol – Augustana is labeled as being a dry campus, but the fact is that several students do chose to drink alcohol. If you are caught with it on campus by a staff member or a resident assistant, you will be written up and subject to potential consequences, but for the most part staff members don't go seeking out alcohol. From my experiences, I have little knowledge of drug users and know that the use of illegal drugs is not a significant problem on campus. From a student's perspective, there are opportunities to drink if that is what you enjoy, but there is no pressure and there are plenty of fun activities that don't involve drinking.

Good School; One Curve Ball – Augustana is renowned for having great Academics. The professors here invite questions during class and always have hours available outside of class for students to get help or ask more questions. They genuinely want you to succeed and want to help you. The one thing that surprised me was how many students at Augustana were athletes. Every year there seems to be a bigger push towards sports, and that was not the impression I first received upon my decision to attend this college. There are several opportunities to get involved in social activities and clubs, but be sure to spend enough time studying, as the classes are tough. Overall, Augustana is definitely a good school.

English Major – I really love my English major, but sometimes I wish I could get a Japanese major, too. I wouldn't sacrifice the one for the other, but if the option had been available, I would have snatched at it, no questions asked. That said, my career goal? Novelist. Yeah, dunno how that's gonna work in the real world, but I'm dreaming big anyway. I figure with the Augie advantage -- as in, Augie is called the Harvard of the Midwest, and for a reason -- I'll figure something out, anyway. I know a relative who applied for an eye doc job, and the employer said, "Oh, you're from Augustana? Hired."

I never really had such a strong sense of community as I do at Augie. Everyone is so friendly, and they make you feel welcome. The only downsides are the religion class (read: Christianity) requirements, and the lack of a Japanese major, as far as I'm concerned. I'm actually facebook friends with several of my professors.

Study Areas – I'm speaking as an off-campus student, but I still think the library is where I get the most and my best work done. People are polite and let you work in quiet, even when almost every desk is being used. There are study rooms that you can sign up for and hide in if you want/need to. There's also a lounge for off-campus students, which is more laid-back than the library and can get loud and crowded around lunch, but if you time it right, you can get it all to yourself. The Huddle, the campus cafe, is really popular, though; it's cozy.

Hard Work, but Worth It – You get doctorate-level professors right out of the gate. Classes are small, which means it's more personable -- but you also have to actually speak up. They work you hard, but you learn a lot, and you EARN those grades. Professors are always willing to talk to students, and I get a real sense of community from everyone, even though I live off-campus.

Walking Is Best – At Augustana, the campus is so small that everything is within walking distance.
College Junior 2012-07-14T20:49:30Z
Housing Is Reasonable – The Off-campus living is decent. there is a select few places you can find for a reasonable price, but some places charge per person so it can get very expensive.

Its Good, but Tough – Here at Augustana, it is very nice. the people here are very friendly and welcoming. the class sizes are very small so there is alot one on one help. the only thing is that the school is very tough with it being a private school.

Very Unpredicable – In Sioux Falls, the weather is very unpredictable. One day it could be sunny and very hot, then the next three days it will be fifty degrees and rainy. there is a cycle like that all year round.

The professors are willing to go the extra mile to help students reach their goals and dreams. An excellent school with great professors.

Not Enough of Them – They are hard to come by and the distance from campus can become a problem with weather and traffic
College Junior 2012-06-01T18:25:02Z
Many Options, but Not Close to Campus – There are many different opportunities that not all students take advantage of. Many restaurants downtown and in other areas offer some great options but are a little out of the way.
College Junior 2012-06-01T18:22:06Z
Provides Many Options – There is a wide variety of classes, and the liberal arts plan gives students the opportunity to take a wide range of classes... not just those in their specific major.

Great Staff and Professors – I have loved each of my professors. They have all been very willing to help out whenever it is needed.

Many International Students – Our class has many people that are not minority, but we also have many that are international students. It has been great to have the opportunity to meet and get to know students from other cultures.

Nursing Program Review – I go to Augustana College and I just completed my sophomore year as a nursing student. The course requirements are pretty intense but they are really good classes and the professors are very willing to help you with anything that you need. I have made a lot of friends with those who are in the same classes as me, which also helps make the classes and things go easier as well. Also getting to know the professors on a personal level helps and makes things way more interesting and will help once getting further into the nursing program.

Night Life at Augie – I usually stay in my dorm at night or go at the lobby to watch TV on the big screen with some friends. But I know people usually go downtown to party, which is not encouraged during the week.
I also play some music with my friend as there is a piano room in my Hall.
College Senior 2012-05-23T19:22:19Z
The campus dining hall gives different menus every day. Students have a variety of choices for food and drink and dessert.
The majority of students eat at the dining hall and it is a great place to socialize and to hang out with friends and family.
College Senior 2012-05-23T19:19:29Z
I have not been able to live off-campus to Augustana. However, I would say that students prefer to live off-campus on their own to low their tuition and to escape the rules and policies of the campus life.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
