Nothing you can help living in South Dakota but in the winter walking around campus is freezing!

Not because of lack of places to live but because of the difficulties that Augustan poses for people to live off campus.

not enough parking spaces on the north side of campus

Health & Safety:
Personal Safety – It is a very small campus and campus safety keeps it well controlled.

Unique Anthro Program – The anthropology major is only in its 4th or so year now, but it's already provided its students with some really neat opportunities. For one, all majors are required to spend a year abroad at Exeter University in England. Also, during J-Term of my freshman year, I was able to do my own original research which I will now be presenting this spring.

Health & Safety:
It's SD – Coming from a bigger city, I arrived with mace and a rape whistle... my new friends who grew up around the school got a real kick out of that. Sioux Falls is extremely safe. Campus Safety does a great job.

Pretty Average – You hear about the big stuff every so often, but for the most part its just alcohol and weed. Nothing really gets too out of hand.
College Junior 2012-03-02T22:06:06Z
Clubs/Intramurals/Activity Galore – UBG is the activity council on campus and they always have things planned on the weekends, whether is free bowling or movies or an on-campus dance, we keep busy. There are also clubs and intramurals of all sorts. It's just about impossible not to get involved.

Guys & Girls:
Augie Advantage – Augie students are generally pretty humble. You won't find many Snooki's around. That said, that's not to say we don't know how to look good. And of course, there's always the Augie Advantage (roughly 3:1 girls to guys).
College Junior 2012-03-02T21:58:09Z
Check Out the Honors Classes – Classes are wonderful, especially if you feel up to taking honors classes. The neat thing about Augie is that you don't need to be in the honors program to take honors classes, just get permission. The load is rigorous, but they chose pertinent and interesting topics. The honors program also picks the best professors on campus to teach.

Good Instructors – Like the biology program. Some very good teachers, but some just average. Definitely challenging

Dorms Not Great – dorms all about the same. Cost a lot for what you get. Freshmen most convenient location

At Augustana College, i firmly believe that we do our best to welcome and accept every single persont that comes through the door. It does not matter where the person came from, and it does not matter what the future holds for them. Each individual is treated with respect and equality.

Many White Students but an Active Multicultural Group – Due to the fact that Augustana is located in the Midwest, there are many white students. However, the number of international students that attend Augustana grows every year. On campus we have an active international group that helps to share various cultural aspects of varying countries with the entire student body. The student body varies greatly in economic backgrounds and political beliefs. However, due to the fact that this is a Lutheran college, the large majority of students are Christian. Other beliefs are for the most part welcomed, however.

Relatively Accessible – Augustana is near 41st and Louise, the two largest streets in Sioux Falls, and as a result you can find a wide variety of fast food places and sit down restaurants. There are also several places to eat along Minnesota Ave, which is very close to campus. There is an awesome Chinese restaurant called Golden Bowl as well as a Juice Stop within walking distance of the campus. If someone wants to buy groceries there is a co-op within walking distance and a grocery store called Hy-Vee that is a short drive away from campus.

Health & Safety:
Completely Safe – I have never felt unsafe while at Augustana. There are two emergency poles on campus and the campus safety staff are constantly driving around an monitoring the campus. There is also a campus safety phone number you can call if you ever feel unsafe.

"Best Fans in the Division" – Augustana is a D2 school, and so that must be taken into consideration when comparing athletics. We don't have hockey, but we do have football and volleyball that are very popular, tennis, ultimate, women's rugby, basketball, track & field, and cross-country, and I believe some more. The skill seems to vary from year to year, but what I've heard from many, even first hand from an opponent's super fan is that Augustana, Sioux Falls, has the best fan section they have ever seen.

The off-campus dining options near my school are relatively cheap, and within a convenient distance. There is also great variety; a dining option for every person.

Being a nursing major while a sophomore at Augustana College has been challenging at times, but not overwelming thus far. Most of my coursework has been generals along with some science and nursing classes. From what I hear the workload greatly increases during junior year. Speaking with nursing majors in thier junior year has opened my eyes to their tales of balancing internships, schoolwork, friends and clinicals.

Anything on campus is easily accessed on foot or by bike and most off campus amenities can be reached similarly with small effort. Parking on campus is however a concern since parking spots are moderately expensive and hard to come by, meaning you may end up either with a permit for a fairly distant lot or being forced to park a ways a way if the spots in nearby lots are full, which does happen. Public transportation in non-existent on campus and mediocre in the city. In certain situations (like visiting the doctor) Campus Safety will provide transportation at no cost.

Drinking Is Widespread, Drugs Are Not. A good portion of the student body regularly engages in binge and moderate drinking on the weekends. Drugs are to be found on occasion on campus but only a small portion of the students engage in such activities, primarily marijuana, as I suspect it is for most college campuses. Peer pressure isn't really a problem and policy enforcement is fairly lax unless things get wildly out of hand as they have a tendency to occasionally in the freshman dorms.

The Housing Is Pretty Standard – The dormitories are pretty much what you would expect for a college campus, I've seen a lot worse at other schools but I've also seen a lot better. The one thing Augie does have going for it is extensive planned renovation of the upperclassman dorms in the immediate future. Granskou Hall is supposed to be receiving new carpeting and modular furniture this year and similar renovations for other dorms are soon to follow. All of the housing at Augustana has fantastic access to the campus.

Lots of intramural sports are offered which is nice, and the Elmen Center is a nice place to work out. The football team recently got a new stadium, which is extremely nice, but kind of a waste of money, when that 7 millions dollars could of went to academics. Fan support isn't extreme, if you want to go to a sporting event then you go, if not, then you're not missing much. There is a group you can join, it's called the "Augieholics" and they get pretty excited for each sporting event, so if that's your thing, then I'd recommend joining that.

Computer labs are a good size, sometimes classes are in there so you have to be considerate of when you go. The library lets you rent laptops, so that's a good deal. Printing is easy. Overall the computer labs are really good. But I'd still recommend having your own laptop/computer, just because it's easier to write papers that way. All the dorms have high functioning internet, sometimes it was slow, but that didn't usually happen. It's nice to have your own printer as well, but it's easy to just go to the library or computer lab to print something out. If you need copies of something, the library has copy machines, however it costs 10 cents or so for each copy.

Life in Sioux Falls – Sioux Falls is the biggest city in South Dakota. The city is very safe and there are alot of activities to do.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
