The school encourages students to explore and allow what makes you different show, rather than be repressed. They encourage students to travel internationally as well as welcome international students to come and study on campus.

Augustana really stresses diversity, which is awesome. They always recruit a ton of international students on campus, which makes up for the lack of diversity among traditional students (we ARE in South Dakota, remember!). They also really encourage studying abroad and help you every step of the way. As far as political beliefs go, there are both Democrat and Republican clubs with heavy student followings, so I'd say it's pretty open/accepting. Being a Lutheran school, most students come from a Christian background, but no one is looked down upon or treated differently if their beliefs are different.

While there are a wide variety of people from different religions and ethnically backgrounds, the majority of the student body is white middle class Christians.

Augie is a small private school in the upper midwest so it's not surprising that it's comprised largely of white upper-middle class suburban kids. However, they do make a solid effort to bring in international students and create opportunities for students to learn about other cultures. As a whole the campus is pretty open minded towards other races, religions, and lifestyles- especially for a Christian school. In my experience, however, the school has a habit of sacrificing student quality for diversity. As a student I do appreciate a diverse student body but I don't like to see the academic environment compromised as a result.

International students are well represented at Augustana, but social interaction among them and other students is small.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
