There is a huge amount of education regarding safety and policies that the school has towards drugs and drinking, and every freshmen is required to complete a brief online session that reviews Austin College's stance on drugs.

You'll meet people of all shapes, sizes, colors, races, and beliefs at AC. Every year, the Indian Cultural Association hosts Masala, political associations hold talks about upcoming elections, and there is always a game on campus to check out every week. Everyone is very welcoming, so it is easy to try new things and experience a different way of life here.

Greek life at Austin College is completely local, so there are no national affiliations. However, the Greek groups on campus are very diverse, so there is a place for everyone to fit in. You don't have to be in a Greek group to go to parties, and no one excludes you if you aren't Greek. Also, rush is every spring, so you have plenty of time to figure out which group is right for you.

There is a lot of variety and it is fairly easy to double major or double minor if you have credits from high school.

Guys & Girls:
Most guys are athletic, so I have to give it to them. Other than that, guys are just average. I've seen better at other colleges and universities.

Can be strict at times when underage students bring the party to their dorms. Do not drink in your dorms or you will get busted.

Good food and great student discounts, but not much variety. Most of the places in town are chains. Best place in town is Texas Roadhouse in my opinion. Leaving town isn't really an option, not much around.

Hard drugs are virtually nonexistent at Austin College. Weed can be acquired with ease in Sherman, TX, but alcohol abuse is far more prevalent.
College Sophomore 2013-07-18T23:11:36Z
The punishment for smoking weed is far too harsh at Austin College. The first time you are caught you are fined and have to do community service the second time you are kicked out of the school, which I find to be very extreme. The campus police and school policies are far more lenient on alcohol abusers.

Guys & Girls:
I hang out mostly with fellow baseball players that like to party and socialize. The girls are pretty nice but there are not enough of them.

Great weather most of the year with a few exception of bad rain days.

The food gets old really quick for a cultured person like myself.

The interactions with your professors at AC is unique. Many of my friends went to UT and A&M and aren't able to access there professors as much as I do. All the professors at AC are very intelligent and passionate about helping you advance in whichever path you take.

I am really happy, as I have transferred from two previous schools. I would like to find a well paying job that allows me to travel the world. Im not sure if I would do it all over again, mainly because I will have acquired so much debt. I don't have many concerns of finding a job because I plan on joining the peace corps and then worrying about finding a job after.

Sherman has terrible food, your only bet of getting a decent meal is hitting up a chain restaurant. The school does provide discounts which is a plus.

I like it a lot. All of the professors are very passionate and they get to know each student personally and develop a relationship. I think my program at school is unique because the teachers and students know each others beliefs and different backgrounds and that makes class discussions even better.

I havent done an internship before but I plan on doing one in the future. I do have concerns of finding an internship that fits well with my busy schedule and a lot depends on whether the internship pays or not.

The library at Austin College is excellent; there are computer labs, study rooms, and computer lab/study area that is open 24/7. If a student needs a book for a certain class and it isn't available there in the library, the librarians will locate it from other libraries in the area and have it sent to AC.

Austin College has a five year teaching program, that allows students to obtain their master's degree in whatever field interests them and continue pursuing their goals.

The dorms at AC are pretty old and community bathrooms kinda suck as well, but you get used to it after a while. Once you are an upperclassman, your options expand and you can live off campus.

They have TAPS buses traveling around town every so often; it can pick you up at the school and take you wherever you need to go. Transportation to the airport is also available if needed.

All of the professors that have taught me so far really know their subjects. They are usually available to answer questions or to help with homework. The small class sizes are really beneficial to me.

Health & Safety:
I never feel unsafe on the Austin College campus. All entries to the dorms require special access, and some buildings require special access at night. I always feel safe.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
