All of our games are free and our small stadium is still never packed for football games. However, my freshman calc-based physics class had like 3 baseball players, a handful of football players, and at least one soccer player. We are just unique like that, and people don't really come to our school FOR sports. However, it is a small school and therefore you definitely have a friend in like every sport, so chances are you have a reason to go support the team and many people do occasionally, especially when they're doing well.

The Advertisements Are Basically True – During orientation, you see a skit where the students are all different and deal with different issues. At then end, they asked for suggestions to make the skit better and someone said, "you should have a homosexual" to which the person in charge replied, "there was one, but that's just how we do it at Austin College." Basically, it's still Texas and it's still the South but Austin College is a VERY accepting place to be.

There are a ton of Greeks way more than you'd expect. However, they don't dominate the campus their pretty easy going. The non-greeks and greeks are pretty inter-twinned and no one seems to go out of their way to judge the other.

Broad View – The campus is small and roomie and in the winter and fall it can be quite pretty. Not much to do in Sherman but, that's what creativity is for.

The Student Center Could Be More Student Friendly – Though I'm never bored at Austin College that is primarily to do with my involvement with extracurricular activities and friendships. The campus center at AC doesn't seem to cater to the social desires of students. Though the Pouch Club has pool and ping pong, i think more students would spend time on campus if there were more fun things to do.

There's So Many of Us! Austin College is one of the best schools in the state to study International Relations but the sad fact is that there are just too many students in that specific area of study. There isn't enough opportunity to cater to all of our needs.

Good Thing There Are Parties! Sherman is absolutely awful for night life. There is one bar and two clubs, both of which are creepy scenes that I personally never go to. Austin College has lots of parties through Greek life, as well as house parties if you make friends. There's usually something to do through people at school, since the town of Sherman is absolutely no help.

The Subjects Are Stimulating – Due to the opportunities presented by the unique four-one-four calendar at AC, the classes seem to be constantly changing. New, exciting subjects are presented constantly and there will always be courses that make students think "Wow, I never thought I'd be able to do something like this!"

Networking Is Made Easier – Alumni of Greek groups at Austin College are always willing to reach a helping hand to not only members of their respective groups but AC grads in general.

Available to You, but Not Forced Upon You. There is a pretty prevalent drinking and drug scene at Austin College...but the nice thing is that though many students use these substances, I have not felt personally pressured to partake. I think the overall mood is that if you want to do it, do it, and if not, don't. No one really cares who does and doesn't, it's more about personal preference.

Why Do We Even Have a Football Team? Our football team went 0-10 this year, there is extremely poor performance at games, and no one honestly cares that much about sports. The IM sport program is a lot of fun; I enjoyed playing lacrosse my first year. But there is again a lack of involvement or general enthusiasm in that area. School spirit tends to go towards the more academic side of things, such as pride in AC's great Model UN team or performance at psychology research conferences. I like the workout facilities, but they could be bigger.

Guys & Girls:
No matter what a student's interests are, they will always find a niche at Austin College. Whether dancing or journalism, singing or religion, Greek life or science are of interest, Austin College caters to the needs of all their students.

Broad View – The school is willing to go above and beyond to aid those who need academic assistance. The school is great at building relationships with faculty members and the campus feels more like a family than a meere school. It also, has a strange way to foster leadership skill. It truly is a place that changes live.

greek life is the only reason that austin college still exists. the school is horrible but if you are greek you are in charge. it gives students who were not the cool kids in high school the opportunity to rule the school for the first and last times in their lives

if you are really messed up walking back to your dorms they will help you but if you park in the wrong spot for 15 seconds they will give you a 200 dollar fine

Boring and Depressing – the weather is always the same. dull. no rain no sun no nothing. whenever it does rain the campus turns into a swamp but thats only a few times a year

You Cannot Live Off Campus Until You Are a Senior or Have 6 Semesters – its horrible! you have to live on campus in the bubble that the school is in. there are not even greek houses

UGLY GIRLS, but 90 Plus Percent Smoke Weed – Out of a total of 1300 students there are, liberally speaking, five women that are attractive. Everyone at the school is miserable with everything there except for the fact that it is a stoner school. everyone smokes and everyone knows it. you can go up to 9 out of every 10 students and they will either smoke heavily or at least seldomly. there is a set party every night of the week, but the parties usually revolve around greek life which is fun but only consists of about 15-20 people at a good party. not worth the 45k a year that it is to go here

It's Great! My experience at AC has been very rememberall and really great. At first I was worried that I wouldn't like it since it's a small school, but it's worth going for the people, the students, the teachers, and the academics. Though I wish the tuition wasn't an arm and a leg, it's worth it in the end. Just make sure you are prepared to do the work that is required of you and then some. I definitely recommend the school to anyone who is looking for an expansion academics and for like minded people as yourself AC is the place for that.

I can honestly say that I, personally, have only seen students smoking, i'm not too sure about anything else. It's who you hang out with, but I heard more about drugs from my peers in high school then at AC. The drug policy is strict at Austin College, it is not tolerated and you risk being in put on probation, so it's at your discretion.

When I first heard about Austin College I thought it was an obscure school that wasn't well known because it didn't have anything rememberall about it. Thankfully however I wa wrong, the academics were off the scale. The school is defintely challenging and I'd advise those that want to apply to keep in mind that the academics is difficult if you are not willing to study at least everyday. It's definitely worth going to this school, but remember to always keep your game face on.

When It Rains, It Pours, but It's Normally Sunny Great – You can definitely tell there are four seasons here. It rains in the fall and in the spring, and when it does boy does it poor. But when it doesn't, the weather is nice in the fall and spring. However, when winter or summer come, the weather hit's the extremes. Either it's really cold or it's really hot.

No Two Greek Groups Can Be Judged the Same. There is a Greek group for almost anyone. They tend to be very nice people but you do have a few that are snobbish or jerks. But each group does something different for the community and even the members of a greek group can be very diverse.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
