The gym is mediocre. The library is exceptional and there are free tutoring facilities. A new building has been made called the Idea Center for all science classes.

Since Austin College is a private school the tuition is very expensive. The school does give a grant to each student. At least 95% of the students are on financial aid.

Guys & Girls:
All the students are incredibly nice and always willing to help. The seniors hold no authority over the underclassmen.

Health & Safety:
The nurse's office is very close to all housing residents and the police is always present.

I live in the all girls dorm- there are also 2 coed dorms. the rooms on the 4th floor are a bit smaller than the rest. the one bad thing I don't like is the communal restrooms :(

Sherman has all the regular fast food restaurants and a good amount of family restaurants.
College Sophomore 2013-05-21T17:54:23Z
Sherman is a nice little town that had plenty to do when it comes to shopping, but campus is a good distance away from town so it is a little hard to get there whenever you want.

Guys & Girls:
There are all kinds of kids at AC. Kids of all shapes, sizes, interests, attractiveness, etc.
College Senior 2013-04-09T19:53:56Z
There are a few chain restaurants and a couple local places. Not that great though

Overall, the education one can receive at this school is quality. Professors, curriculum, and workload can be alot sometimes but at the end of the day, you learn so much.

Health & Safety:
I've never felt unsafe. Small, secure campus is nice. If you want to keep your neighbor's from pranking you at night, lock your door. Campus police and the RA's don't appreciate drinking games.

Sadly, all of the night life revolves around Greek Life at AC. If you aren't Greek, or friends with Greeks, there is very little chance you'll have a choice of parties to attend on the weekend.

Go Campus Police for making sure people don't get arrested on campus. Also, the boy/ girl strictness in dorms is laughable, which is how it should be, considering these are adults.

The school has been around since 1849. It seems that so have the dorms.

Guys & Girls:
Austin College is home to all kinds of people. Our common denominator is that we're all passionate about our respective fields and eager to learn about other fields. Almost everyone is confident and very friendly.

Parking here at AC is fairly easy and there are almost always open parking spots, often good ones. There's no charge for parking on campus. The only downside is that some of the dorms are farther from parking than others, but the campus is small so that doesn't pose much of a problem.
College Sophomore 2013-02-08T23:59:36Z
There is a decent variety of off-campus dining here in Sherman (mostly chain restaurants like Cheddar's, Panera, Fuzzy's, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc, but all different kinds). Most of the places I have been or know of have decent or average prices, and many give AC students discounts if you show them your AC id card. Having a car is handy, but they're almost all accessible by our campus's bus route.

Greek life here seems to center completely around parties, some of which can get out of hand. They also seem to value doing service, with many community service projects continuously going for each fraternity/sorority.

At Austin College, you can Major/minor in most subjects without any sort of application procedure. You do not select your major/Minor until your sophomore year, so keep an open mind in what you want to study.

With a lack of any sort of Greek Row, students must revert to house parties of campus, usually hosted by a fraternity or sorority. They can either be a total rager, or be a terrible waste of time, depending on who is hosting and the amount of alcohol available.

Unique things about Austin College include local Greek Life, very personal connections with professors, a small community and a town that really does not care about the college.

Student life on Austin College's campus is truly what you make of it. Sherman, Texas is not exactly the most exciting place in the world, so you must make good friends to ensure a good time. Joining a club, whether it be going Greek, playing a sport or joining other student organizations, it is crucial to be a part of something, or else you will find your time here very dull. The student body is diverse enough for everyone to find friends. What you experience here will be very unique to Austin College, nothing comparable to being just a random face at a state school.
College Junior 2012-11-29T02:47:44Z
The only type of nightlife comes from parties. They have good alcohol sometimes.
College Sophomore 2012-11-28T21:15:15Z
It is scary. It is always best to travel in groups or to carry around pepper spray. Since there aren't that many lights around campus at night it is difficult to see farther than a few feet in front of you.
College Sophomore 2012-11-28T21:11:35Z
Since this is a small school the parking lots are small and they fill up pretty quickly. There is one main parking lot that is closest to everything a person might need but unless you're extremely earlier you won't find a spot.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
