Alcohol and drugs are a noticeable part of campus social life. However, no one will force anyone to drink or try any substance. You are not looked down upon if you do not partake, nor are you seen as 'the cool kid' if you do take part. Alcohol is prominent, and students revel in not being very discreet about their drinking habits. Or they are discreet to the faculty and staff, while all the students around them know what is going on. Drugs, however, are another story. Students are much more discreet about their use of these substances, and most limit themselves to marijuana. While most off-campus parties offer a smoking room, people who smoke generally stick to small groups and do so in private. Because AC students party hard and work hard, there is some usage of prescription study drugs like Adderall in order to pull all-nighters for tests and papers. That being said, while AC is filled with partiers, most also are instilled with an overachiever mentality, so this keeps these drugs from becoming too prevalent on campus.

Drug violations on campus are treated in-house on the first violation. The violator is faced with community service and social probation. After the second violation, students could be turned over to the city police rather than the more lenient campus police and could be kicked out of school. Drug and alcohol paraphernalia is closely monitored as well, especially in dorms. In general, alcohol and underage drinking violations are treated less harshly. The violators will have to have a discussion with their Area Coordinator and will be assigned community service.
