Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Two things you will never do in Sherman are go hungry or be bored from the options. Almost every building you pass by is a restaurant of some sort. Most everything is reasonable in price, and a lot have discounts for AC student. Many places know students and appreciate their business, so do not expect to be looked down on as many younger people are.

While there are many chain restaurants, mostly on the other side of town, you should really pay attention (and patronage) to the local eateries. Sherman has a few diamonds in the form of local places. Burrito Stand, MG's, Little Italy, Kathleen’s Kitchen, Sweetberries, and many other places. These are Sherman institutions, introduced by upperclassmen to freshmen, passed down as faithfully and with as much love as all of the college traditions. It’s a tradition for students to stay up all night for delicious donuts and fresh kolaches (pigs in a blanket) from the local donut shop. When your taste buds want a really good burger, there are at least three diners to choose from, and don't forget the hole-in-the-wall burrito stands that only accept cash but will satisfy your Mexican food cravings.

Convenience will be your only issue with Sherman dining. While part of the charm of Austin College is that it is set apart from the central parts of town, it means that all the restaurants are a few minutes' drive from campus. So, if you want to indulge yourself in Sherman's many eating options, you'll have to use the Roo Route or hop in the car. And, if you want true fine dining, you're going to have to drive 30 to 60 minutes south to McKinney or Dallas.
