Good Solid Effort

The campus police are always around at APSU--unfortunately, they are usually writing parking tickets, but I do appreciate seeing them on patrol. Once my sister and I saw a guy and girl fighting on the sidewalk and the guy started to get physical with the girl. Let me tell you, by the time we called directory assistance on my cell phone and briefly spoke to APSU police, they had a squad car on the scene in less than two minutes to investigate.

Though one part of town that is kind of rough is close to APSU, as long as you are sensible and not being stupid (drunk at night alone approaching strangers, etc.) I think you will be just fine.

Growing...Hopefully in a Positive Way

Austin Peay is in Clarksville, TN. This is not only a college town, it is also an Army town with Ft. Campbell just minutes away. This is good in many ways--local restaurants are multicultural (we have lots of German and Korean restaurants that are great), and there is always money in the town because soldiers are always spending deployment money (nice housing, lots of car dealerships, restaurant chains, etc.).

We do have some poverty and crime (some related to the military presence, some not). Unfortunately APSU is kind of close to the projects/bad part of town, but campus itself and on it's other side are beautiful, well lit, and well policed. I feel it is safe enough to live here (and I have happily done so for years), but keep your eyes open when enjoying yourself.

Campus Dining at Austin Peay State University

Expanding Nicely

I think Austin Peay really tries to meet their students' dining needs. In the past couple of years they have added a Papa John's Pizza and a Starbucks, and we already have the giant generic cafeteria, Chik Fil A, Einstein Bros. Coffee, and a great local place called Blondie's Coffee and Sandwiches. APSU is the type of school that really will listen to the students if they want to give suggestions.
