Guys & Girls:
I think its just like any other school I see couples all the time walking around campus there are no bars and we live in a very small town. I am catholic so I fit in real well . I have a girlfriend in school up in Ga. I see her on all our breaks.

The parking is decent, there are always places to park and pretty close by to everything. I dont think security is to strict when visitors come about decals.

Ave maria is kind of in the middle of no where but its about 20 minutes outside of naples naples is a beautiful upscale area. Ave maria is more country and is still being built up. There is also a beach within an hour so you have the luxury of all three kinds of living pretty close by.

I see it as a structured environment for us to study in. There are some rules that many people wouldn't agree with, but they really aren't a problem if you are there to learn.

Gorgeous campus, everything is brand new, you really can't go wrong in any of the dorms.

I have not yet enrolled, but I don't believe that many of the students here could ever do drugs. not because of lack of availability, but it seems a campus averse to such things as a whole.

The meals are good and the area is always clean and the cafe is great if you need a snack or get an express lunch.

Ave is about 30 minutes from Naples, so unless you have a car or can borrow one, there are only about 1 or 2 shuttles off campus every week for shopping runs. The buildings are fairly close together, and so for living on-campus only a bike or longboard (a glorified skateboard) is really needed. People are generous though, so you can almost always find someone who is able to take you off campus.

It is really a great environment to study in. There are enough events on campus where you can miss one or two and not be out of things to do. The SAB and some of the households are really active in planning or sponsoring events and trips off campus. The cafe is open until 2am, so there are almost always people hanging out, or playing pool or table tennis. There is also a super market about 8 minutes walk from the dorms, so shopping is convenient, although slightly more expensive than off-campus stores.

I think that the food in the cafeteria could be a better quality for the students. Although there is usually a good mixture of meat and vegetables, sometimes there is a lot of fried food, and not enough fresh fruit. The buildings are built to withstand hurricanes, so no matter what comes up, the campus buildings are all very safe in case of foul weather. Some of the professors are both challenging as well as understanding. They really notice if you work hard and give them your undivided attention during class. There is also a good opportunity to grow spiritually through the frequent availability of the sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and Penance.

Ave Maria is a great place to be in. I can have a faith, and being there helps me to grow deeper on it. Everyone that is looking for a good school with good academics, and growing athletic dept. Ave Maria is the right choice.

Athletics at Ave Maria are just beginning to come into their own. Facilities are not great, but projects are underway as far as a football stadium. The basketball teams (men's and women's) are easily the most fun sporting events to attend at the school.

The amount of computer labs is very good, the connection is very slow but the availability is great, printing is sometimes a pain and the library is usually the only place that is reliable for printing.

The dorms are outstanding, very big and accommodating, however, they do not have cable. The social atmosphere is very friendly but rather dull and rarely do you feel like you are not in a sleepy neighborhood setting. The housing process and flexibility of rooming in the residence halls is accommodating and relatively easy. Overall, the dorms are very nice and comfortable yet the social atmosphere is lacking.

All of the buildings are built to withstand a category 3 hurricane so no need to worry about being blown away. Most of the buildings are newer with wifi and plenty of space. The RD's know what they're doing and help keep the catholic morals enforcing the rules of no members of the opposite sex in individual rooms. They also hold events throughout the year so that you can get to know the guys in your dorms.

The variety of off campus is very limited. Most places close at 7 or 9 everyday so if you want to go get a midnight snack you have to drive on into Immokalee.
College Sophomore 2012-08-31T04:09:34Z
the computers at Ave Maria University are slow but they get all the work you need done and they are also clean so that's a huge advantage.

Health & Safety:
I feel very safe on campus, minus an occasional gator!

Lots of Fun but Not Too Much Outrage – There are no clubs but there is a pub just off campus.

Most People Are Required to Live on Campus – Unless you are over 23, or live in the area with your family, you are required to live on campus. The dorms are very pleasant - the girls mega-dorm has four girls to a room; the rooms are partially partitioned in half. There is a nice social atmosphere, although couples tend to occupy the lounges... However, I think it would be preferable if there were other off-campus opportunities, and if rooming on campus was not so expensive...

Competitive - but Worth It – Psychology is a relatively young major at Ave Maria, and because the school is so small, there is currently no separate process (after general acceptance into the school) for acceptance into your major program. A student simply declares their major selection in their sophomore year. Thus any student who wants to major in a field, will be able to.
Overall, however, Ave Maria is competitive and their financial aid is largely determined by GPA and SAT/ACT scores. The application process includes an essay as well, but it is surprisingly brief.

Only Alcohol and Cigarettes – There is a very popular on-campus pub, and the rules about not keeping alcohol in your room, while strictly enforced, may be side-stepped, so there is drinking and smoking - but very little compared to a bigger school. There is practically no binge drinking... and no illegal drugs. Not a place to go if you want a party school.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
