Health & Safety:
Safe Place – I feel safe because Avila security is ever present among us including the faculty take it seriously to prevent crime and personal safety for college student who attend.

Not Perfect, but Good – The mac lab is my primary work space. The computers are nice and have software pre-installed on them. However, more frequent updates of browsers and software would be better. A plus side is that we just got our own Mac tech hired on Avila's IT crew. The printers definitely need replaced and the wireless internet sometimes goes down for days at a time.

Health & Safety:
They Try, but They Need to Be Consistent – Avila Campus Safety has made strides but I still don't feel comfortable about the cadillac converter thefts. Otherwise, there are very few on-campus crimes, and many cameras. There are also easily identifiable emergency polls to either call campus safety directly, or 911. The campus is open and lit fairly well. I do not have to worry about my physical safety.

No Internship Yet – My last semester at school I will be in student teaching but I have not made it there yet.

Love the Education Program – The education program at Avila University is above and beyond many other education programs in surrounding areas. The curriculum is kept up with the times and tries to teach us for what seems to be ahead. The teachers are wonderful and truly care about you. The program is so well known that being an education major at Avila lets potential employers know that they can expect something great out of you making it more likely to get a job. I would definitely choose going to Avila for the education program again.

Academics are awesome at Avila. The faculty is very helpful and there is available tutoring if needed in the learning center.

Program Shouldn't Be Discontinued – The current Pre-Law Studies program is being discontinued but Avila is offering me personal plan. Although this personal plan is not very flexible. Classes are only offered one time during the semester, if even offered that semester. Workload is okay and the teachers are great!

DONT EAT IT – save your money and eat off campus or cook yourself because the cafe is a mystery every day
College Junior 2012-05-22T00:13:40Z
Tunnel Life – there are underground tunnels that make it easy to get to the cafe and to class buildings

Drugs and Drinking – With Avila being such a small campus, gossip gets aroung quick. Most people who do drugs mainly just smoke. However, we now have a new athletic director who is putting a stop to drug use in sports. There a frequent drug tests for every athlete and if they don't pass they are automatically suspended the first time and the second fail they are kicked out of the school for good. Weed seems to be popular for the guys, but most students just drink to have a good time.

Easy to Find – Being such a big city, there are a lot of options for off-campus living. Prices seem to vary quite a bit, but I have definitely found some nice ones that would be manageable with a roommate or two. Since Avila is in a pretty good part of Kansas City there are many safe and nice ones close to campus. As far as the campus helping students find an apartment, they have many books with apartment options and what each of them has to offer.

Sports Are Huge – Sports at Avila University are big part of campus life. Since the school is rather small most people on campus are involved with a sport. If students aren't on a team, they still come support. As far as facilities go for the sports, they have continued to improve. This past year Avila has put in a multi-sport turf field that is used for football, soccer, softball, and baseball. They also built another gym that is used for practices and has a batting cage for baseball and softball. The only thing that could use some improvement is the workout facilities. The weight room is not very impressive as far as equipment goes and they only have one treadmill and two ellipticals for cardio.

House Parties and Exploring – The clubs and bars in the Kansas City area are for students who are 21 and up. Kansas City is, however, a very good place to explore and see all of the great amenities the town has to offer. There are great locations for shopping and restaurants for a date night or girls night out. But as far as night life goes for the people not 21 yet, house parties are the only option.

There Is a Place to Park! Parking is great. You have to get a parking permit to park in the school parking lot, which is given to you during enrollment. I've never had to drive around and look for an open spot on campus. They have parking available almost completely around the campus so you can easily park and not have to worry about walking a mile to classes.

Of course there are vending machines all over campus but we also have a Subway on campus. Having Subway so close helps eat a little healthier if you pay attention to what you put on your sandwich but also is reasonably priced and with a good menu.

Everyone Is Equal. Everyone is treated the same. We have students from all over the US and some foreign exchange students. This college also offers study abroad classes as well. You are taught to express yourself freely regardless of race, culture, beliefs, and so on.

A Nice, Clean, and Safe Area – The off-campus housing selection is very nice. Its clean, safe, but can get costly. It's worth the cost though. You are close to shopping, libraries, and many extras. There are traffic concerns but as long as you allow yourself a few extra minutes you will be fine. There are many choices on places to rent and many of them have a lot of extras to offer as well.

Getting into the healthcare management program at Avila was not a difficult process. If you are a transfer student you must have a 2.0 gpa, be at least 23 years of age, or have worked your job for 4 years. The advisors help you set up all of your classes and figure out what you need to graduate saving the students a lot of stress.

Degree Program – I tranfered to Avila for the Healthcare management program and I love it. It is advanced so all classes are 8 week classes and are in the evening, so that students are able to work during the day.

Health & Safety:
Campus Safty – Avila University has a 24 hour surveillance service. There are security poles in the parking lot that you can push a button and call for security. There are cameras all over campus. I do not hear about crimes happening around campus. I have always felt safe to walk in and out of my dorm at any time and also around campus without hesitation.

So your options are open, however there are several nearby, affordable options. There are scholarship on campus that do not allow you to live off campus, and athletes are probably better off living on campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
