Awful, but in the Process of Improving – The cafeteria food is rarely appealing for most students. However, we have a points system that allows a certain amount of Subway or pizza purchases, which can be convenient when your schedule gets rough. The cafeteria was recently redesigned, but the food is still lacking.

Avila is in a suburban area with lots of shopping centers. Some driving is required to get to major shopping areas or downtown KC. Unfortunately, for the student with a tight budget, this area is pretty pricey, as well as the school. The first-year experience is great, but the financial aid department is not as cooperative with years to come. The communication between the business office and financial aid office needs improvement. The professors, however, are top notch. Great school for the well-off.

I currently reside off campus. I found a reasonable apartment which is perfect sized for me and my roommate. I have also found great apartments available very close to the Avila campus. The average for a decent 1 bdrm is around $650. I believe there are apartments that have advertising through Avila near the dining hall.

Health & Safety:
The staff at Campus Safety is really nice. They have safety phones that connect to campus safety all over, which makes me feel more at ease. They have a service that can walk you to your car so you aren't alone which is available 24/7. The only concern I have is that there was a sexual assault recently on campus. However, campus safety is working on fising the problem and preventing problems in the future.

Kansas City Atmosphere – I have lived in Kansas City my entire life. There is a lot to do off campus. There is the Country Club Plaza, there are various shopping malls, outdoor and indoor, and there are lots of local hot spots for college-aged students. It is an amazing city to explore if you have the time. There is World's of Fun, an amusement park that is fun if it's the right season. We have some great haunted houses. Kansas City Chiefs games are also really fun, considering Arrowhead Stadium is the loudest in the country. Kanas City is a great place to be.

The Tell All of Tales – I hope that it will be my most eventful and fulfilling experience to this point...I'm expecting that this will bring me closer to what I need and feel in helping others get through their conditions.

Too Bad "Spreading Yourself Thin" Dosen't Promote Thinness! If one dares to be a jack of campus life be prepared to keep plenty of vitamins and energy boosters in a bedroom just to sustain yourself.

Attractions Are Plentiful – The city is always busy. The Sprint Center and sports arena are top of the line. You can find crowds everywhere you think you might want to go for some aloneness! You don't need money to have a good time. If you're still young and adventurous enough to brave the sites the city is all yours!

Basketball and Other Sports – I have played basketball at Avila University all 4 years. The team has gone through some challenges, by getting a new coach and new athletic director in the last 2 years. We made it to the conference tournament 2 of the last 3 years. The girls basketball program has been the most successful by qualifying for the national NAIA championship this last year. The school spirit is not the best, and the facilities are in need of updating. They are in the process now of doing some improvements to the gym and work out areas.

Accounting Major – My experience at Avila University in the accounting curriculum has been very personal with personal attention as needed. My instructors take a real interest in the students in their classes. The workload and curriculum are challenging and difficult. I obtained an internship on my own and it has been very beneficial in my understanding of the business world.

With Avila being a Cathloic University there are certain rules that apply the are infoced. Like no drinkin on Campus especially if you are under age. There is to be no inyimate contact if you are not married. The leaders at Avila are vry conservitive.

Avila has tons of different types of people on campus due to the exchange program, and there are lots of opportunities on campus to learn about different cultures and people.

of course it' sclose to downtown KC, so there are plenty of cool places to go and things to do, but because of it's location I don't know how cost effective or safe the surrounding neighborhood would be

I love the insructors, they are very knowledable about their profession and helping their students learn hands on about counseling. They are also very quick to respond if you need help with anything.

Carondolet and Ridgeway are spacious rooms that have community style bathrooms. The bathrooms and halls get cleaned multiple times a day. There are kitchens available to students on each floor. Thompson is set up like a suite and has a kitchenette, living area, and two full bathrooms. This all has to be cleaned on your own however. There are washer and dryers on each floor and a computer lab in each dorm. Also all of the dorms are set close to the classes and everything else on campus

Should of Been Smoother and Easier – Do not make any phone calls well or leave a message it will not get responded too, thats the first lesson I learned. Go up there physically and stay until everything is sorted seems to be the way they work up the financial aid office. One time getting in touch with the aid was so hard a call to the dean was made. Not cool at all but he got us to the right person. I really suggest the financial aid workers to look at the voice mail on the phone. See because the school isn't small does not mean laziness which effects the students is needed.

Small and Friendly – Avila is a small school with no lecture-halls which tends to make people ask if it is real. Yeah really small. Because of this everyone pretty much knows everyone or has bumped into someone. When it comes to learning not many teachers requires a sign-up sheet and wait most will let you walk in if your there and if they aren't working with another student. The campus is friendly too during the winter people will build an igloo or two while passer-by's randomly stops to help. When it gets warmer like the spring people will go crazy and decided to tan, which gets really funny sometimes while others play volleyball and soccer the campus safety normally helps putting things like that up. We also have the Santa Fe walking trail that a lot of people use when it gets warmer for exercises. Avila offers free yoga classes and really cheap events to go to like skating for 2 dollars or a free hypnotist event. Events like those are constant. The current one is finding pots o'l gold for a prize. Oh. we also see our dean eating with us at lunch.

The computers at Avila University are usually crowed between classes including midterms and finals. Normally a spot can be found if it is needed. Majority of the people have their own computers with wireless access but the wireless can be unstable, slow, and a good chance to loose connection. This becomes a problem during midterm and finals. Having a personal computer is a must. A lot of research and essays are done and the requirements...well requires it done on a computer and printed out. Printing on campus is extremely easy, everyone gets 3500 print credits and a normal black and white page is 10 cents; cheap. If you don't know what to do going up to the circular desk and asking for help is the best option. They are extremely friendly and helpful.

Everyone Drinks – Obviously everyone is a bit of an exaggeration, but most students do. With the college being so small the same people are at the same parties every weekend, and the parties are huge. There is some drinking in the dorms but for the most part people go off campus. Some people smoke pot, but not the majority.

Health & Safety:
People Safe, Cars Not – I have never once felt threatened or scared on the Avila campus. It is so small that there is almost always someone around even if you are outside at night and I have never seen any sort of sketchy characters. Campus safety are always out and about. The only bad thing about campus safety is that they give ridiculous parking tickets that most of the time are not justified. We also have a problem with theft of catalytic converters in our lower parking lot. As far as I have heard the university has done nothing but warn people about it. It is obviously a problem and we need more security to stop it.

Guys & Girls:
Everyone Is Very Welcoming! All the students here are like a big family just beacuse the capmus is so small. We all know each other and tend to get along with everyone. The students welcome you with smiles and are typically sports players. We are so small so most of the students who attend Avila are athletes. We are an athletic group of kids.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
