Great Nursing Program – APU has a highly competitive nursing program with one of the top nursing programs in the nation. It was difficult to get into, but it was worth the wait. We have hands-on learning experiences in our skills lab and clinical placement in hospitals as soon as we started the program. There are opportunities to go on mission trips, study abroad, and volunteering as well as having internships and possible job placements.

Cancer Sticks and Damaged Livers – Of course, drugs and alcohol are not allowed on campus. The drug scene is minimal. When students smoke, it's usually at night on the sidewalk, which is considered off campus. Drinking is also done off campus. Policies are strictly enforced.

A Different Kind of Community – Despite the financial aspect of APU, I really enjoyed my college experience here. The students are friendly and the professors are always willing to help. What makes APU unique is the fact that it offers more than just academics; it also serves the community locally and abroad through missions, and promotes friendships through various groups. Although APU has a loving community, academics are pretty tough.

Health & Safety:
Campus Safety increased protection for students living in on-campus housing across the street within the last year by hiring guards for Alosta Ave. I feel a lot better walking back from classes or study sessions, but if you can avoid walking out at night even with friends,

Good and Bad – Mostly sunny being north of the coast, but it can also get hot since your just out of range of the coastal breeze. Overall not to bad.

Fun in the Sun – It is your pretty typical Southern California weather! Pretty warm most of the time, nice to be outdoors!

Always Accessable – Computers are easily accessable for paper writing, research, or printing homework.

I Wouldnt Know – I do not live on campus so I am unaware of college parties. APU is a Christian learning facility so I imagine they are not very wild.

Accelerted Program – I am in an accelerated program with the same 17 classmates for 19 months. I absolutely love the set up of the program, workload, and curriculum.

Not Known – I have never been in a situation where the school has been strict or overpowered me.

Never Confused or Given the Run Around – APU is wonderful at helping and assisting with every need possible. The professors have all been great at providing the best learning possible!

On campus there are only about six places to eat. But these places are not your typical McDonald's or Subway, anything of this sort. All these places make their own food for students to buy. The Dining Hall, although it is a buffet style eating area, the food only got better when prospective students began to visit the school, which was towards the end of the school year. Once living in places other than Freshman dorms, try buying your own food and making home cooked meals.

Not a Typical Night – Although there are rules against parties on campus, there are events planned every so often later in the day/evening, and even some on the weekends. It may seem like a boring school, but these events make attending Azusa Pacific all worthwhile.

I don't believe this school is strict. I would say that their punishments are reasonable if one is ever out of line. I have seen that one gets warnings, "probation" and then a much severe consequence if the same "crime" is done repeatedly, and I think this is truly fair.

I have never had a problem with the weather. Some days it is hot, some days it is a bit cooler, but never too extreme. Just this past year maybe the most extreme was a windy night and heavy rainfall one day, but in general, it is great at Azusa. :)

Living in Freshman Dorms was a nice experience, but there were times when I wished that the social atmosphere was more than what I experienced. It felt as if only if you were best friends with a neighbor, then all was fun and games, but if not, then you were on your own. Cost is alright for the dorms. Overall, these dorms are tolerable.

Guys & Girls:
The Rate of Girls to Guys – One thing that most people will realize about the APU is that it is flooded with girls. The ratio of the number of girls to guys are 3 to 1. APU is also a very diverse community, you will see both male and female from countries such as United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Vietnam, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina, Belaruse, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Deutschland, Myanmar, Malaysia and many more. Most of the students here maintain the proper attire and also maintain each other's values and privacy, there are seldom cliques that exclude others. These relationships are one of the top reasons why a lot of the students choose to come to APU

Nursing Program Is Amazing – The Nursing program in APU is one of the best in CA. Most hospitals around the area will definitely know the APU Nursing Students, not just because of proximity, but also because that they have the best of the best kind of nurses in the vicinity. APU's Nursing program have echoed to Huntington Memorial, Kaiser Permanente, Foothill Presbytarian and even Hollywood Presbytarian. These places are where the program take their nurses to when they are doing their clinicals. The professors are amazing, helpful, very resourceful and highly intelligent individuals. The double-edge sword for students on the other hand is how competitive it is to get into the program. Each cohort only consists of 50 students maximum. In which case, only 4-5 transfers and relatively only 1 International Student per semester will be selected to enter the program per semester. The upside, the classroom is very small, and therefore it creates an intimate relationship between the students, so there are no unhealthy competitions among the students to be the "best." They just help each other in each times of need. Also, the curriculum in APU integrates heavily on the teaching of Jesus and Christianity, therefore not only student are taught to learn and care for their patients' mental and physical being, but also their spiritual ones.

Apartments Outside of APU – APU have many apartments outside its surrounding area, such as Pinery or Azusa Gardens, and not to mention Alosta Place. Pinery and Azusa Gardens are the places that students usually go during Summer, because housing in APU during Summer is relatively expensive. Pinery has been maintaining a very good relationship with APU along with Azusa Gardens. If one would go into its community, 50-60% of the people that is living in that apartment complex are APU students. Azusa Gardens is no different with Pinery, the only downside is that Azusa Gardens are slightly further away than one of the APU main campuses, the East Campus, where most of the on-campus events take place. They are relatively cheap also, considering the rate of rent for the city of Azusa. Availability, on the other hand is very poor, especially those who need housing starting in the month of May. Most of the apartments complex opened up in June, which leave the students that need housing in the month of May to move around or stay in the APU Housing

Professors and Students – The professor in APU always have a very high standards to their students, and therefore, making APU to be one of the best private Christian school in CA, with a relatively okay tuition cost if compared to different private schools in different areas in CA. Professors usually give students their cellphone numbers that they can be reached at if the students have questions regarding their class work or homework. The Nursing program, which was considered one of the best Nursing program in Southern California, live up to their standard, they expect their students to maintain a C+ in both the test average and overall average, but they did not leave the students in the dust while continuing on. There are many resources that will be available for the students, either tutoring, which was provided free of charge, or the professors themselves will come to talk with you during office hours if you have a lot of questions.

Dorms and Apartments – The dorms are somewhat livable, according to most freshmen, the upperclassmen on the other hand, have a choice to live in apartments, though still considered campus housing. There are some rules and curfews that are maintained in order to keep the integrity of the students, because, again, it is a Christian school, and they want to keep their students up to a very high standards.

There are a huge amount of computers throughout the 4 libraries in 2 campuses. The printers sometimes does not work, in which case can be a drag especially during Finals week or during those times when printing is necessary. Speed is very slow though they are using Verizon as their primary provider. Since it is a Christian school, it is normal for them to block some website, but there are some websites that are blocked with no apparent reasons.

Many Options! For freshmen, the options are only dorms, but there are four buildings to choose from. They are all different in their own way, and students choose which one they like better. We have Smith (for boys), Adams(for girls), Trinity (co-ed with community bathrooms), and Engstrom (co-ed with suite style bathrooms). I lived in Engstrom and had a great experience. For sophomores, you can choose apartments (either Bowles or UP), or living in the modular homes on campus. The mods are great because you don't have to pay utilities, but the UP has a nice pool.) Juniors and seniors also have two options for apartments.

There is no Greek life at APU, since APU strives to have a close knit community where everyone is involved, and stays away from such things very common in other colleges.

Everything Is Near! Right across the street there are restaurants, a movie theatre, grocery stores, and even a bank. About a mile away there is the mountain with the Garcia Trail many students like to hike on the weekends, close to Disneyland, close to malls, and pretty much close to everything. Only a short drive away can lead to a fun place.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
