There is a lot of diversity at APU; however, you don't really see it unless you are at a coffeehouse event specifically for that ethnic group. As an african-american student, I only see the rest of the 4% of black students when I am at Black Student's Association coffeehouses. If I hadn't joined my school's step team, I wouldn't have as many black friends as I have now. This is a medium sized private school in Southern California in LA County so we're as diverse as we can possibly be I guess.

I am African American as well but I was wondering in your primary classes do you appear to be the only African American as well?

Typically I'm not the only African American student in my primary classes, usually there is one or two other African American students in the class. What I've found is that the bigger the class, the higher the possibility is that I'll be 1 of 5 or so African American students in the classroom. However, the smaller the class is, the higher the chance is that I'll be the only African American student in the class. But at the same time I'm still just a freshman and GE classes are going to have a broader population than classes going toward your major.

okay thats awesome thanks for the info. I hope to attend there next year as a vocal major!

You're welcome! If you do end up attending APU next year, you're going to really love it! Good luck!
