Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The public safety team is well accepted by most students and is seen as a helpful agent in crime prevention, campus security, and argument mending. “BABO,” the friendly nickname used for the Babson public safety personnel, explains students’ accepting attitude towards the officers. The campus itself feels secure because it is so well lit everywhere, and it’s in a safe town where crime is not an issue. Everyone knows the rules and policies here, but since it is a college, students do get out of control and happen to break a law or two on the way. When incidents occur, it’s best to be very cooperative with BABO. If you do, they will be very considerate and helpful, trying to avoid making a student feel worse than necessary.

Partying underage is not strictly persecuted by the officers at Babson, and most of the time, they don’t care if there are weekend get-togethers in dorms, as long as they’re not too loud. Sometimes, students get caught because BABO breaks up parties, but they are either told that they have a “strike” or just to leave the party and not come back. If a student gets three strikes, he or she gets kicked off campus, but this seldom happens. The Babson police should be congratulated for maintaining such a highly visible presence and for giving the campus its secure feel.

Emergency Lights Make Nice Decoration

As a campus tour guide I always make sure to point out the emergency blue lights on campus. Their primary purpose is supposed to be in case of emergency if someone feels unsafe, but I only know of 3 instances when someone has used them. 1) A person was simply too lazy to walk all the way across the small campus 2) A person slipped and broke their leg (in our lovely New England weather, I'm sure) 3) Someone was testing if they actually worked since they never get used. As you can see, Babson is perfectly safe; I even leave my door unlocked even if I'm not in my dorm room because I know and trust the other people in my dorm enough that I know nothing will happen.

Completely Safe

When I went on a tour of campus, the girl who was a junior at the time said that she would feel completely safe walking naked across the campus at 1 o'clock in the morning. How much safer could the campus be??
