Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The use of technology at Ball State really depends on the department. Students in the graphic design program use state-of-the-art computer software to design their projects, while students studying printing are stuck with technology circa 1970. In general, the technology is fairly advanced at BSU. The University recently set up a campus-wide system for wireless Internet, and many professors make use of the Blackboard Web site for announcements and homework assignments.

PC and Macintosh computers are available across campus with a concentration of Macs in the Art and Journalism Building. Repairs are usually made quickly, and the technical staff is knowledgeable. Crowding is generally not a problem at the labs, except during finals and at certain crunch times when whole classes will take them over. This is especially true of the Macintosh labs. For those students who choose to bring a laptop computer, the University has provided a wireless network that covers much of the campus. Another recent addition is the iLocker; this provides BSU students with two gigabytes worth of space on the University server.

Computer Labs Located Everywhere.

There are computer labs in most buildings on campus, including dorm buildings. All except for the library close at midnight, so a personal computer would be convenient for projects that take awhile or taking notes in class. Computer labs are generally not too busy, but during final weeks, a personal computer comes in handy. Lastly, wifi is located all over campus, which helps a ton.

I am content with the resources provided in the library, but would like it if there were more computer labs throughout campus. I don't like having to use the library all of the time. Also it would be beneficial if there were printers on every level of the library and not just the first level.

Computer Labs at Ball State

There are plenty computer labs available all over campus and everything we print off is free until we get to around 500 pages. You can always find a spot unless it is around midterms/finals week. The computer labs for testing fill up quick.
