Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Although the majority of BSU students are white and American, the University has actively tried to make the campus as multicultural as possible. Ethnic organizations like the Asian American Student Association and the Latino Student Union are active on campus and sponsor many events throughout the year. At Ball State, there are many opportunities to meet people from other national, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. If you know the right people, it’s not uncommon to go to a party and find Japanese, Korean, and German students sitting in some corner drinking Belgian beer and speaking French (that actually happened to me once).

Ball State has some far-flung ties, and it attracts students from all over the world. Still, non-white ethnic groups are definitely in the minority, and a walk around campus can be a pretty monochromatic experience. Students say that many ethnic groups, particularly African Americans, tend to be tightly-knit communities, keeping largely to themselves. When it comes to sexual diversity, BSU is a pretty open place. Spectrum, Ball State’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender organization, is one of the largest and most active student organizations on campus. Despite the fact that most students come from a Christian background, BSU has some robust organizations for students of other faiths. Religious organizations such as Hillel, the Muslim Student Association, and the Society for Earth-Based Religions also sponsor speakers and host events.

Diversity at Ball State

The diversity of Ball State is a great experience that I have noticed throughout my freshman year. I grew up in a small town that had little to no diversity at all. Going to Ball State has really brodened my horizons with diversity in a great way.

Diversity

There is plenty of diversity at ball state. People from different religions and races. Many people from other countries. Ball State even provides different groups for us all to gather together either within the same group or within a variety of types of people.

Pretty Well Blended.

Personally I don't see any challenges with diversity, but I am within the majority here on campus. There are so many clubs offered here for many regions, if not all. And churches are not allowed on campus because we're a public school but there is at least 5 I can think of that are a short walking distance away.
