College Prowler Take
Despite efforts by the UPD, the Delaware County Drug Task Force, and other agencies, Ball State has a well-established drug scene. Many of the students interviewed agreed drugs are available to pretty much anyone who wants them. Marijuana is by far the most popular illegal drug on campus. Prescription drugs such as Vicodin, Xanax, and Adderall are gaining in popularity. Sometimes called “pharmies” or pharmaceutical drugs, they are seen by many students as less of a liability than pot, which is easily detected by law enforcement.
Harder drugs such as cocaine, opium, and methamphetamine tend to be used by small, tightly-knit groups of students and are generally not seen around campus. Despite the easy access Ball State students have to drugs, the majority interviewed said they do not use them often, if at all. Alcohol, on the other hand, is a prevalent part of Ball State’s campus culture and is far more ubiquitous than illicit drugs.
