Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Just because a lot of underage students drink doesn’t mean they can’t get in trouble for it.
  • Smoking marijuana in your dorm room is generally not a good idea.
  • There is a lot to do in Muncie if you just take the time to look.
Tips to Succeed
  • Go to class—you’d be surprised how many people forget to do this.
  • Take notes—if you didn’t do this in high school, now is a good time to start.

Urban Legends
  • If a virgin ever graduated from Ball State, so the legend goes, the statue of Beneficence would lose its wings. As of this writing, the wings are still firmly in place.
  • Over the years, students living in Elliott Hall have reported noises, moving furniture, doors closing on their own, cold spots, and ghostly handprints on the dorm’s fourth floor. These strange occurrences are credited to a ghost named Will Schaumberg. According to the legend, he was WWII veteran who was hideously deformed in battle. His girlfriend dumped him after he returned to Ball State from the war. Devastated, Will hung himself from one of the rafters.
