Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Finding a parking space on campus can be an epic battle. Everywhere you look, there are no-parking signs. Ball State Parking Services workers can smell an illegally parked car from a mile away. Students say Parking Services is without conscience, a loathsome and sadistic group, bent on making student drivers miserable.

Freshman drivers are forced to park at the stadium, which is a hike in the truest sense. Although the Ball State shuttle bus goes by the stadium, the trip can take a very long time. Many students said it is best for freshmen to leave their cars at home and wait until they are upperclassmen and can get a better spot to bring it to campus. For many freshman students, not having a car isn’t that big of a deal, as they tend to stay close to campus anyway.

Good Parking

Parking here is pretty good. There are costly fines is you do not follow parking rules. Parking on campus is limited especially during move in and move out dates and on weekends. Parking is close to the dorms so it is convenient.

Parking Problems

The cost for parking permits are $94 and that is to park at the stadium which is pretty far off campus and the buses start and stop running at certain times so it is a hassle to try and catch the bus sometimes.

Parking

The permit costs are pretty outrageous. The tickets and fines are even worse too. People get ticketed all the time for no reason as well. I think for teachers it is important for us to have a car because of going to the elementary and high schools near campus, but not near enough to walk. There are also not enough parking spaces ever even when you want to have guests. There are some far away from our dorms that are usually hard to get to and a very long walk. Parking in general is not the best here on campus, but not the worst either.

Getting a Parking Permit

Permits can range from $70 to $350, depending on the parking location and the availability of spaces. It’s best to get a permit a semester in advance and keep an eye on the waiting lists for a better spot. This does not apply to freshman students who must park in the stadium parking lot.
