A Firm Hand

Campus police understand that college is a time to be stupid occasionally. Ball State is a dry campus, so the only place you should get caught with alcohol is at a party. Typically if a cop catches you drinking under-age, he will give you a warning the first time, but don't make a habit of it because they will remember you. However, If you are caught with alcohol in your dorm, consider yourself on your own for the night or even the rest of the semester.

Ball State Life

There are always things to do in Muncie. The Mitz bus runs right through the Ball State campus and will take you all over town. Did I mention students ride FREE?! There are a lot of cultural, safety, entertainment, and educational events hosted in the area, like concerts, movies, and parties. I've been to other campuses, but none have the friendly atmosphere that Ball State has.

Drinking

Most people that have alcohol usually don't show it. There might be peer pressure as to if you should drink or not but then again, that all depends and your friends and who you decide to hang out with. Police have busted some parties but it is not an everyday thing.

Descriptions

There are a lot of people that have their own individual style. Some guys dress really nice, while others wear basketball shorts and a t-shirt. Some guys are very feminine while others are very manly. Same goes for the girls. Some dress really preppy while others are more of tomboys. There's a variety of different styles here but everyone seems to pretty much get along socially.

Facilities

Ball State offers a variety of different sports to get involved in. Their student center is a place students can come and hang out, play games and meet new people. The library is easily assessable to all students and on week days it stays open until 3:00 a.m. Activities on campus include gatherings that happen in the lounge of with your dorm building that offer fun things to do. Plus once a week the school sponsors an on campus party called late night. It is an alcohol free party that offers food, dancing karaoke and more.

Good Transportation, Free

the university has busses that go from place to place on campus free of charge. there are city busses that take students downtown or to the local stores also free of cost. there is also a number you can call if you need transportation later at night. a van will come and pick you up and take you where you need to go

Great University Facilities

large library with an emense database. Student center has places for food as well as serves as a focal point for university sponsored activities and parties. Dorms often sponsor activities for thier residents

No Working Student Will Be Left Behind

Though some of the courses offered at Ball State are not difficult, some students may struggle in some of the higher level classes. For every course there is someone in the learning center that can help. The learning center is open to all students and includes help for undergrad students all the way to doctoral students.

New to Architecture but Loving It!

I only have one semester in at Ball State, but it is easy to see that the professors in the architecture program are committed to providing a top-notch education for us. My classes this semester are very hard, but that will only make me a better architect after I graduate.

Ball State University

Ball State is the main attraction in Muncie, Indiana. The beautiful landscaping along with the brick embroidery make it a sight to see. We have many attractions such at the Art Museum, the Student Recreational Building, including a huge rock wall, and the David Letterman Building, built by the famous comedian, David Letterman. I always feel safe on campus, with campus control within reach everywhere. The diversity provides an experience one could not find anywhere else.

I LOVED Living on Campus!

I lived on campus for three years and it was wonderful. Most of the dorms are very nice and there has been a newly built or remodeled dorm every year that I have been enrolled, so most are in great shape. Dehority, Park, and Kinghorn are the best in my opinion. Housing is pretty reasonably priced and every dorm has access to a computer lab with free printing, study rooms, rec rooms, and workout rooms. There are many options for food and many different meal plans, so you'll never go hungry. I've had extra meal money to use up at the end of every semester.

Fire Alarm Frenzy

Living in the dorms is the funnest part of freshman year. Being a freshman, the dorms here you are more likely to be placed in Studebaker West, Lafollette or Noyer halls. La Follette hall is extremely social and nearly all freshman and sophomores enjoy their time there. It is loud and energetic while Noyer and Studebaker West and East are a bit more reserved. There are activities to do every Friday and Saturday, even some during the week. Bathrooms are cleaned everyday by a janitorial service and nearly all dorm halls have a private exercise room- so there is no reason to gain that Freshman 15! Although it is a lot cheaper to live off-campus than in the dorms, it is an experience most need to have. You can almost bet on having a fire alarm every month; maybe more. Burning Easy Mac is almost an everyday occurrence in the dorms and don't be surprised if you are awoken by the fire alarms at 4a.m.!

Tickets Galore

My freshman year I got almost $500 in parking tickets. This is not rare. Parking Services is a bit of a devil on campus - ask anyone. They are hard to reason with and do nothing all day but drive around giving as many tickets as possible. Parking is usually far from any academic buildings, and metered parking by the buildings is available for 45 minutes when classes last for 50 minutes - and it is guaranteed that Parking Services will give you at least one ticket during those five minutes.

Gay Everyday!

One third of the Ball State Campus is homosexual. That alone should let you know that BSU is full of diversity everywhere. While not everyone is accepting, there is always a club for everyone wanting to feel like they fit in.

Funnie

Muncie is a run down factory town that once you get out of the campus there is nothing to do.

Good...Not Great

I personally enjoy the majority of the restaurants on campus but there isn't anything special. All of the good thing are too expensive so you won't be able to get much without using dining plus.

A little bit advise though don't get the 21 meal plan. You will not have time to eat 3X's a day 7X's a week. 14 or 18 would be best.

Awesome!

I feel very safe when it comes to campus. There is close to no times I've ever felt my safety was compromised.

Best Options

There have been a lot of renovations to dorms in the past few years that have improved on-campus housing. The best options, as well as most modern, are Dohority, Park, and Kinghorn Halls. The most social dorms are the older dorms, which I would recommend for freshman. These social dorms include Lafollette, Noyer, and Wilson Halls.

Hello Officer...

Ball State offers more of a safety based system instead of punishment. Those caught drinking and driving, drinking underage and similar acts are punished in accordance of the law. But, in most cases exceptions are made in situations involving police in order to protect those involved yet, not harm the students future permanently.

The Great Break from Home

Hey, for being my first home away from home, I love it. It's like I'm getting a since of the real world, while still having that little shield of "Hey, I am still a Student!"

If Only Everyone Cared

I came to Ball State University for it's excellent Telecommunication and Business programs. I stayed at Ball State for the experience. I would have to say that the university has a well diverse culture; and the teachers actually want you to take interest in the courses. Classes aren't too big, allowing the professors to spend more time with each individual student. The Staff also treat you like people, not childish students.

Greek Life

I personally am not part of the Greek Life on campus, but I know lots of people who are a part of GL and they are all very involved and enthusiastic about their fraternities and sororities.

Many Professions Available

i am a freshman here. i feel like i didn't receive help in deciding what classes to take. the classes are very large (100+) and they don't do much to help freshmen transitions to college.

There Aren't Many Options for 18-20 Year Olds

The night scene for 18-20 year olds doesn't include many options unless underage drinking or smoking pot seem fun. My friends and I usually end up playing video games and just relaxing because of the lack of options. This does, however, force some students to resort to underage drinking and getting caught.
