There is no Greek life at Bard. Many students view fraternity or sorority living as a nuisance, and the fact that there has been no student effort toward establishing Greek organizations at Bard attests to that. Students here are by no means happy with all aspects of the social scene, but they agree, almost unanimously, that bringing Greek life to Bard would do little to help anything.
So, all you Otter and Bluto wannabes take note: this is not the school to come to if you want to spend four years of your life in an Animal House. I guess there’s always Keen-Cruger (see Campus Housing). That’s about as close as you can get to a Greek-type atmosphere at Bard. At Keen-Cruger, wild parties are pretty much commonplace and there is never a shortage of beer. Other than that, Bard students are content to experience Greek life solely in their philosophy and mythology classes.

Apparently, Bard has never...
Apparently, Bard has never condoned frats as long as it has existed. Every year, there’s some group of morons who think it would be cool to try to start a frat, but nothing ever happens. This is not the college for hazing and bullying nerds; it’s a place where everyone is treated as equal and there are no exclusive parties. I think we all prefer it that way, and, hopefully, it will never change. |

A few people at Bard act like...
A few people at Bard act like they’re in a frat, but most of us don’t. I couldn’t picture frats existing here. It goes against everything Bard stands for. |

Did You Know?
The closest thing to a frat at Bard is the Feitler House, a politically minded, all-organic and vegetarian, vegan-friendly co-op nestled atop a low, hammocked hill overlooking Annandale Road. Feitler residents don’t throw too many parties, and there are certainly no hazing rituals required for membership, but they do exist as a somewhat exclusive, homogenous sub-society.
