Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As a student on campus at Barnard, you’ll be able to take advantage of all the facilities that the Barnard and Columbia University systems have to offer. However, you’ll find that as a Barnard student living on the west side of Broadway, Barnard’s facilities are much more convenient to use. The one exception to this rule is the Dodge Fitness Center, which is Columbia’s gym. If you want to workout, then you won’t mind walking across the street to Dodge, which is a much better gym than LeFrak, the gym Barnard has to offer. No one really uses LeFrak, except for events such as Midnight Breakfast and for Barnard PE classes, while Dodge offers lots of exercise equipment both in kind and quantity.

Most of Barnard’s facilities aren’t great and most go unused.  Most students don’t care too much, though, because, as part of Columbia University, they have access to everything on any campus. Whatever kind of facility you’re looking to use, it’s out there. It might just be a little farther away than you’d like. What really makes Barnard’s facilities great, though, are the people that work in each one to make sure that the students are well taken care of, which is something you don’t find at too many schools.

A Mish-Mosh

Barnard's facilities are an eclectic mix of historic, ivy-covered brick buildings, 1960s Soviet-esque monstrosities, and award-winning ultra-modern icons. The library is a little dated looking but cozy feeling and the perfect place to study. The gym is small but not intimidating to those of us who aren't body builders. the Diana Center is simply BEAUTIFUL.

Facilities on Barnard's Campus

The faciliites on Barnard's campus in terms of sports are lacking; however, this doesn't really matter because we can use those at Columbia which are much better. The Barnard library is also quite small, yet cozy. Again, we have access to all Columbia libraries which are wonderful. The aesthetics of Barnard are pleasing.

The Barnard-Columbia Experience

Barnard College is the sister school of Columbia University, located in Manhattan New York. It has a small campus compared to Columbia but it has a home feeling. The athletic center and the library is faily small. Every Barnard and Columbia student is allowed access to both campuses and their fascilities. Usually when i dont want to surround myself with a generous amount of people when I want to study or work out in the gym, I stay on my campus rather than go to Columbia Unveristy across the street. Generally, there is no campus life because New York is our main source of entertainment and culture. However, we do have greek life, cultural support groups, theater groups, accapella music groups. What is most exciting is when the campus hosts small flee markets during the day. Students are allowed to shop for nice vintage accessories in between classes. My favorite building on campus is the Diana Center. It just opened Spring 2010 and it is filled with state of the art computer labs and a new dinning hall. It is also a place to host events for formal ceremonies or open mics for the musicians and poets on campus and in the city.
