College Prowler Take
There are few places in the world with nightlife as abundant as in New York City. Unfortunately, all of this fantastic nightlife is far from Barnard’s campus. Since Barnard and Columbia make up almost all of Morningside Heights, there are plenty of places to find liquor nearby, but these places just provide the drinks and forget about the ambience. This probably isn’t very different than other college towns, but because New York has so much more to offer, students know that the bar scene is lacking. Most of the time students don’t really care and enjoy just hanging out with friends over a few drinks near campus, appreciating that they don’t have to pay cab fare or the high prices for Manhattan’s trendy drinks. There are plenty of bars to choose from on Broadway, near Barnard, but because there is far less space than there are students, they tend to be crowded no matter when you go. There are no clubs near Barnard at all, which is fine since clubbing is so expensive, anyway. Most people don’t mind spending $12 on a cab to get downtown when the club’s cover is $30. Basically, there is any sort of entertainment you could ever imagine in New York, but for Barnard students, it’s more of a question of money and motivation. You’ll probably usually want cheap and convenient, but if you ever feel the need to do something special and go to one of the many clubs or bars downtown, you’re sure to have a good time. There are dozens of places just a cab ride and cover charge away.

The party scene is very small on campus itself, as all of New York is your party. Most students go to clubs and bars. The dorms themselves are very quiet on weekend nights.

Parties aren't really my scene, so I can't say. Greek life is pretty bad, which I consider a plus. It's hard to go to bars or clubs around this area if you don't have an ID.

In New York, you should always be able to find a place to have some fun at night. The area around Barnard is just bars though, so you would probably want to go downtown. |

Parties on campus are few and far between, but the bar and club scene is awesome, although it gets expensive. |

Tons of people go to the West End. It’s pretty much just a college bar. It’s nothing special, and it’s always crowded. There’s a lot to do, just nothing very close to Barnard. |

FactsClub Crawler
The area immediately surrounding campus is totally devoid of anything except bars in terms of nightlife, but being in New York City, nothing is very far away. If you don’t mind making a trip downtown, you can have your pick from the swankiest, celebrity-studded clubs in town. The clubs are there. All you have to do is get in.
Bar Prowler
Like the clubs, Barnard and New York City offer a wide variety of bars for you to choose from. Whatever your style, you’re sure to find a place that suits you.
Organization Parties
It’s unheard of for the school to sponsor a party with alcohol. This just doesn’t ever happen. Campus clubs will throw parties, like Orgo on the night before organic chemistry finals, but if you want a party, you shouldn’t be looking on campus.

Find some older friends and go out anyways. Most bars and clubs in New York won’t turn away a girl, especially if she is dressed nicely and is over 18. Or you can go out to see a movie or a Broadway show with discount tickets that can be purchased in the College Activities Office.
