There is an amazing amount of choice when eating off campus at Barnard, both in the immediate vicinity of the campus and all over New York City. You can find even the most obscure cuisine somewhere in the city. Near Barnard there is a lot of Italian, Chinese, and French food, although most restaurants cater to students since they are pretty much the only people that hang out around Columbia and Barnard. Almost all of the restaurants around campus deliver, so when it's cold and you don't want to go outside, you can still eat pretty well. Pertutti's isn't great in terms of quality of food, but for the price, it's a pretty good deal, and Famiglia and Koronet's serve lots of huge, greasy slices of pizza. Deluxe On Broadway serves the best brunch around. The best restaurant around campus is probably Le Monde because it's close and serves great tasting food. It is a little bit more expensive than the other restaurants nearby, but it's also much nicer inside without being so nice that you would need to change clothes before going to eat there.

The choices that Barnard students have are amazing. The only problem is that choice and quality come at a price, and lots of times, in New York City, that price is very high. It's great that Barnard students have so much variability, but it is very frustrating to many people that they can't take advantage of the wide range of dining options because of financial constraints. Although dining hall food is good, it's hard to eat there when all you can think about is sushi or fabulous Italian.
