Barnard College provides a great experience for aspiring young women who want it all. There is a nice, small college feel from small discussion classes and one-on-one advising while being able to take part in a large Ivy League University. There are large libraries, well-equipped athletic facilities, and well-known faculty at a school where the president of the college might serve you breakfast at midnight before finals. Most students find that Barnard is a place to feel at home in one of the busiest cities in the world. On the flip-side, many students also feel the pressure of tough academic work, as well. With so much to do in New York City and on campus, it can be very frustrating for students when they have to spend hours on homework and studying.

Barnard appears to work very diligently at making sure that it is both academically very rigorous, and that students have many opportunities to enrich their lives socially and financially. This is both a blessing and a curse because classwork takes up such a great deal of time. A few students wish that Barnard had more of a social scene, but most students love the school and continue to feel like they are a part of the community, even after they have graduated and moved on. Barnard is not the school for everyone, but the women that choose it are usually really glad they did. It provides a very unique college experience, much different than the pop-culture idea of college that includes rowdy football games and empty kegs lying on the lawns of frat houses.
