Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Barry University is gaining quite a reputation for its athletics, and so far, Barry has won national championships in golf, volleyball, and women's soccer. In addition to these sports, the University offers plenty of other varsity sports, including baseball, basketball, rowing, softball, and tennis. At every home game, whether it’s soccer or basketball, the Barry community is very supportive. Going to the games is a great way to interact with other students on campus.

For students just interested in having a good time, Barry also offers intramural sports, including dodgeball, four-on-four flag football, kickball, soccer, and softball, among others. The intramural teams are alive and well on campus and provide a healthy, interactive, and challenging activity for the student body. One thing many wish Barry would add is a football team. Many students say they feel having a football team would grow the student body enormously and give Barry a huge name.

Barry Athletics

Sports at Barry are pretty big. There are separate workout facilities for the athletes as well as trainers and advisors. Events are well announced and school spirit is very high. In addition to the sports, there are also inter murals for anyone who wants to play less often.

Trouble on the Bench

As the roomate of a softball player, and the close friend of members of other athletes at Barry University, i'm privy to all of the team drama- with the students AND with the coaches. The teams all strive to perform at maxamum capacity, wanting to win and train hard to keep themselves in the game. Athletes attend other games to support their fellow athletes and have a lot of school spirit. Sometimes, however, the coaches don't conduct themselves in a positive manner. I'm well aware of one softball coaches actions towards certain team members, and i'm also aware of the opinions of the team about said coach. None of it is very positive.

School Spirit

Many students on campus have school spirit, but many don't, as well. A lot of students go to basketball, soccer, and flag football games, but that's about it. You will rarely find a lot of students going to the golf tournaments or baseball games. However, during Greek Week, more than 60 students showed up to a baseball game, which never happens! Overall, more school spirit is definitely needed at Barry.

Getting Tickets

All games and sporting events are free for Barry students. Otherwise, tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for non-Barry students.
