Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Barry University is one of the most diverse universities out there, and people from all over the world come here to study, play sports, and have a great college experience. In fact, U.S. News & World Report ranked the University’s diversity No. 1 among southern regional colleges and universities. Barry has many international students, and there are so many nationalities here. And even though this is a private, Catholic institution, in no way does the school force religion on anyone. It’s solely up to you if you want to go to the campus chapel. Each student brings his or her own religious views and beliefs, and everyone is free to express those beliefs on campus.

There are many multicultural, ethnic, spiritual, and political clubs to join, and many interesting people to meet. And being that the school is so diverse, everyone accepts one others’ differences, backgrounds, and beliefs, so there is no discrimination whatsoever. If you are prejudice or racist, Barry is definitely not the place for you. However, if you love diversity, crave community, and desire new friendships and experiences, Barry offers all three and more!

Lot of Hispanic and Black People

Unlike the University of Florida, which I attended for my undergraduate degree, Barry University is much more expensive on a per credit basis. Therefore, I was surprised to find so many Hispanic and Black students from less than affluent backgrounds. My statements are in no regard meant to be racist. It would make no difference if the entire school was Hispanic or Black, but the fact that the people were from lower income backgrounds made no sense to me. They were taking out loans to go to a school that provided education at a higher cost than a much better state school.

I did also see many students from very affluent backgrounds, who drove fancier cars than my own parents do. Therefore I give Barry an above average grade for diversity, but not excellent because somehow I feel they let lower income students (who tend to on average have lower grades) admission, just for their tuition, which sadly comes in the form of loans which they may have difficulty repaying.
