Quick Stats

School Slang
  • Beni: Benincasa Hall, an upperclassman residence hall.
  • D-Block Soldiers: Dalton and Dunspaugh halls.
  • MD: Renee Mottram Doss Hall.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Don't wait to find a work-study job, or you will be out of luck due to the lack of available jobs on campus.
  • Study more and and hang out with friends less, or your grades may suffer.
  • Take advantage of the many jewels Miami offers. From internships, to cultural exhibits, there are plenty of things to check out.
Tips to Succeed
  • Check your Barry e-mail account daily. The University sends a lot of important information via e-mail, and if you rarely check it, you will miss out. Many students are stuck with housing assignments they hate only because they forgot to check important e-mails from Residence Life.
  • Do not procrastinate with projects. Those two-week deadlines will creep on you.
  • Don't take on too many extracurricular activities. With classes, clubs, and deadlines, you could find yourself under water rather quickly.
  • Get to know your professors by talking to them after class. By forming relationships with them, this will help you as a student and as an alum.
  • Have fun! You are in college, so enjoy it.
  • Stay on top of financial aid. Although you may be entitled to aid, if you do not take the initiative, you may not get the money when you want it. Also, by staying on top of financial matters, you can fix errors immediately to avoid trouble later.
  • Study a lot!

Students to Teachers

Classroom size is amazing at Barry. There might be some classes with a big lecture hall, but for the majority classroom sized are small. It gives a chance to the teachers to actually get to know there students. This also makes it easyer to ask for help form a teacher.

Not Helpful to Students

Most of the staff (financial aid, registrar, etc) is not very helpful, especially to graduate students. They are not the friendliest people, and they act like you are an annoyance.

The faculty are great; they are super informative. I have liked the majority of my professors, but everyone else basically sucks.
