Barry Athletics

Sports at Barry are pretty big. There are separate workout facilities for the athletes as well as trainers and advisors. Events are well announced and school spirit is very high. In addition to the sports, there are also inter murals for anyone who wants to play less often.

Mediocre Campus

Library closes at 12pm and the tutoring sessions end at 9pm. There are no campus activities, you have to go to other schools for activites.

Miami Is Beautiful, Unlike Miami Shores

Miami is a fun city. Miami Shores on the other hand is a very poverty stricken area. I dont feel safe outside the campus gates.

Campus Security..?

Campus security at Barry is worthless. They ride around on tricycles carrying no weapon on them. There is always a security officer standing at the gate between the two sides of campus during the evenings, but it's usually an older lady who would be helpless if someone threatening tried to pass through. I don't know if I've ever seen an armed policeman or security personnel on this campus. There have been two drive-by shootings right across the street from my dorm, and a gang that jumped the fence to get onto campus right in front of my dorm. Needless to say, the safety of this campus could be, and should be, greatly improved.

Repetative

They have a cafe and other options but they make the same meals everydayand it gets sickening

Limitted

At Barry University drugs and alcohol are not permitted but outside of school of course you will find a few students drinking.

Not Very Good

Not enough parking space, mostly all reserved for faculty and staff

I hardly see any guys that I could fully consider to be my type. They are just average to me. I agree with the other reviewer that it is mostly international students and black guys. I think FIU has nicer looking guys than the ones at Barry, IMO.

Rain Rain Go Away

The rain is the most annoying aspect of life in sout Florida. The end of the fall semester and the beginning of the spring semester are the best times of the year. Temperature drops to about 67 degrees and it is cool and breezy. You do not want to be stuck in the summers here because the mosquitoes are the size of chihuahuas. The reain creates these mosquitoes through pockets of standing water in gardens and collection areas. It is really humid but that is a plus because it makes you want to go the beach. This is the best thing about university life in SoBe, the beach, the beach, the beach. In all honesty, even if it rains, people still go to the beach.

Boys at Barry

There are only a few boys that are really attractive here at Barry. There are mostly international and african american students. The male athletes are very appealing other than that there is not much of an attractive male student body.

very content with dining hall...

i don't know why people hate the dining hall so much. to me, they do have varieties..they serve different food each day and some are the same kind. they also serve vegetarian food...what more do these people want?? i don't really care to go to other food places on campus. i like eating at the dining hall because i can get any kind of food i want, it's convenient, and cheaper. i am looking forward to go back there tomorrow! i wouldn't want it any other way.

The Diversity Life at Barry

There are so many diverse students from all over the world. It is super easy to be accepted at BU because mostly everyone is from out of state or out of the country.

Beautiful Weather

The weather here is beautiful all the time. There are occasional rainstorms, but other than that, it's beautiful.

Barry's Business School

The classes are really small, which can be an extreme asset if you need individual attention.

Barry Computer Labs

The computer lab is sufficiently equipped with fairly fast working computers. It is rarely ever filled to capacity except around finals time. The library also has some computers.

Computers Are Good!

If you don't have a computer of your own, don't worry! Computers are everywhere around campus. We have them in all our labs and in the library, and they are very useful. The only downfall is that you need to pay to print, but many teachers let you e-mail them your papers, so it's okay! We have wireless access, so if you have your own computer, you don't have to worry!

Drugs Could Be Worse

The drug scene at Barry University is not too bad. Yes, many students still do it and do get caught, but that is because they are stupid. It's all about who you hang with. None of my friends are into that, so I never get influenced by it. It's your choice whether you let it affect you or not.

It Is Boring

The only thing to do on campus is eat food and go to the gym.

Feels Like Home, and I Only Live 15 Minutes Away

I never want to leave Barry to go home. I feel safe walking around campus, and I always have someone to say "hi" to. It's been really easy making friends just because everyone is so nice. Staying at Barry also means getting to go to all the events that always have a meaning, whether it's getting the word around that it's Earth Day, teaching us how to save energy, or fundraising money for organizations that are looking for cures to end diseases. The professors are amazing. They are always in their offices when they say they will be and will always help when you ask. Classroom sizes are small, which makes for a great learning experience, and it's easy to ask questions. All this comes at an expensive price, though. However, the scholarships they give out are pretty good.

Great Miami Days

There's great weather in Miami all day long, which may be the best thing about Barry. There are sunny skies all year long.

Very Nice

There are no curfews enforced on campus. Security is very friendly, and there are even public safety cars to take you to other buildings late at night if you don't want to walk.

Diversity

A small campus, with a chance of individual attention. The teachers actually know your name here.

One-of-a-Kind Major Makes Dreams Come True

Barry University may be a small, private school, but what may be even lesser-known than the university itself is its major revolving around the Scuba diving industry. I came here specifically for this program, which is technically known as the Sport Management with a specialization in the Diving Industry major. The divers here become like a tight-knit family as your relationships with one another are developed through your time here at school. This helps to retain students at the school, while also aiding them in a field of study we all know and love. The whole "going to college for scuba diving" may sound ridiculous to some, but those individuals must have no qualms about sitting behind a desk in an office while earning their income. I, on the other hand, see myself actively pursuing the lifestyle I dream of, which is to do what I love and get paid for doing it. I've heard lots of negative things said about Barry in my four years here, but I simply feel as though those students have not found a way to relate to their program of study and really find a passion for it, as the Barry University Diving Industry program has helped me to do.

It's the Most Diverse School

Barry University is one of the most diverse schools in the nation. There are students from 100 countries, and it's a very eclectic campus filled with new and different people to meet.
