It's a great tool to use if you apply yourself but could use better techniques on assisting the students.

Computers on Campus – There is limited availability, but when they are available they are sufficient. It is frustrating that we have to pay for copies. First school that I have had to do that.

Online classes are easy to access and are monitored by an IT person so that when there is an issue it can me quickly resolved.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I have attended 2 other colleges other than Bates and never had an issue with financial aid. The paper work is unorganized, they require special summaries from the IRS and wont accept a copy of your tax return. I had to wait until Winter quarter to get my fall financial aid.

Be Prepared to Pay for Books, Tuition, and Fees at Your Own Expense – The curriculum is great. I love the "hands on" training which is much appreciated in this economy. Sometimes i feel that the environment is too relaxed causing students to procrastinate on test and homework assignments. Also many issues with financial aid checks being dispersed in a sufficient time frame, some students have to wait weeks or months to be funded, and are unable to get the books and materials they need. Other than that, pretty decent college.

Too Relaxed!? If you are looking for a laid-back school, this is it. I'm not sure it's such a good thing because I take my education very seriously, and would like it if the school was more "on it".

Completely up to You. I'm taking a medical terminology course online, and there is no schedule! No due dates at all, but of course you need to finish everything by the end of the quarter. It sounds like a good thing, however, it is easy to get off track, so I suggest creating your own schedule and sticking to it! It does give you the flexibility of taking time off, and tailoring it to your life which is pretty great!

The book store has everything I need. The receptionist even knew all the answers to the questions I was asking because she is involved with the teachers who give the list of books needed. There is a really strong communication between them

Just Starting – I've only been here a quarter, but feel the staff are more prompt to responding to its students rather than other colleges I've been to. Calling to talk to someone can be a problem, but if you go to the campus to set up a meeting, or need an advisor, they are very prompt.

I love the work but I feel the school uses us as free manual labor. As I said I love the work but I do feel there is only so much they can expect us to do for free.

School Politics – Instructors have no power to expell unwanted students, even when caught with drugs and alcohol. Resently sexual harassment has run rampant through my class and I can't do anything about it because my instructors turn a blind eye to it.

Job Prospects – Over 90% of the students find machinist jobs before they graduate. To me that's what sums up Bates, it's got a great training program that get's you a job. It not a lot of fluff, it's a lot of substance. That's worth gold in this economy. I'm here to learn so that I can get a job. The other stuff is secondary, or even non-essential.

School Body – I don't really have an interest, nor do I participate, nor have knowledge of the different school body activities.

Machinist Program – They transferred my credits that fit the curriculum. Awesome teachers, one daytime and one nightime, both very competent, accessible, knowledgable, interactive, teach well, quickly grasp concepts and how to run machines. I can't believe how much knowledge and experience I've gained in one quarter. I knew a few things the temp teacher didn't think of. I am feeling more and more confident to be able to become a full time machinist. I would not be anywhere else.

Older Technology – There are a few new computers that equate to current standards in the workplace but not a lot and they are always getting worked on. The local network is very restrictive.

The workload is fairly consistent yet there is a mix of physical text books and online labs that are required to complete the class, effectively doubling the cost of books per quarter.

Ease of Study – Open campus feel, multitude of class schedules including days, nights and online.
