There has never been a Baylor student that starved to death, unless it was from deeply-seated psychological issues, because the food on campus is so readily available there really is no excuse not to eat. Many students have become very concerned with being health-conscious and pay more attention to what is in the food that they are eating. If you’re not on a meal plan, eating is dependent upon your willingness to go buy it or get up and cook it. With a meal plan, such lazy aspirations are easily avoided.

The one thing to avoid is eating at peak hours in Penland. You’ll wait in line just to get your ID swiped, and then wait for your food and be rushed to eat. Unless you have a nice two-hour break for lunch, either eat early, late, or somewhere else. Penland is, by far, the most popular place to eat for freshmen, and even some upperclassmen because of its location and selection. The other perk to having a meal plan is that you can get your meals to go. One of the complaints from upperclassmen is that after a few years, all the food starts to taste the same. For some bizarre reason, it seems there is a conspiracy in the dining halls to wean you off cafeteria food and make you an independent eater by the time you graduate. They achieve this by making all the food taste the same. The other drawback is that unused meals at the end of the semester don’t roll over, so a lot of the time you’ll catch yourself eating meals just to use up your allotment.
