Yes - Moody Computer Lab (Garden Level of Moody Library) and Information Commons (Second Floor of Moody Library)
College Prowler Take
There’s little you can’t do with the on-campus computers. The wireless network, also known as Air Bear, spikes from time-to-time, but the library staff stays abreast of most problems. The two labs that are open twenty-four hours are completely different and act as a late-night hub for student activity. The Information Commons on the second floor of Moody Library is more of a group study area, and there are no quiet hours. The garden level lab is considered a “quiet study area,” and if your group work gets too loud, you’ll be asked to leave. Every semester, Student Technology Services hosts software clinics free to all students, faculty, and staff where you can learn programs such as Power Point, Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Fireworks. Typically the only complaints that ever go on with the computers on campus are that during finals there aren’t enough available. Baylor has been undergoing serious budget cuts in the last two years, so none of the computers have been replaced, and the allotment for printing and charges are relatively new. There is a Baylor Book Store that has some decent discounts on software, so you can check that out if you’re in need. Online gamers eat up a lot of bandwidth once you’re plugged into the network if you’re living in a dorm, but for general computer usage, you’ll never run into any problems.

The computer networks are great, and they really make an effort to update and maintain top equipment. This is very much a wired campus, and you don’t need to have your own machine in the dorms, as each one has its own lab. You can check out laptops at the library as well. As a matter of convenience, I would have a PC at least by the time you move off campus so that you don’t need to go to campus to use the services. |

The University-run Resnet service has its problems usually a couple times a week, but it’s not bad. Any time you’re on Baylor property, you have to adhere to pretty strict rules on using computers. It can be inconvenient at times. There’s supposed to be a wireless signal no matter where you go on campus. |

The computer network is good, but the labs are usually crowed, especially the one in the Pan-Hellenic building. |

I would advise bringing your own computer or making sure one of your roommates has one you can use. |

Did You Know? The Crouch Fine Arts Library houses one of the most renowned music libraries in the Southwest. The Library boasts 50,000 audio and video recordings and 75,000 music scores. Special computers with keyboards attached and virtual recording studios make this a popular place for music students or budding musicians to perfect their craft. You can check out laptops for a four-hour renewable period from the Information Commons and Garden Level of Moody. Currently the only locations on campus that offer color printing services for students are the Casey Computer Center and Baylor Duplicating. These locations charge a fee for color printing. An online forum, known as the BIN, serves as a huge source of information for current students and incoming freshmen. Once you’re enrolled as a student, even before attending your first class, you can ask what classes to take, which professors to avoid, buy or sell furnishings, and ask any general question you want; all will be answered or discussed by students in one of the many online forums. Faculty members often visit the Web site to keep their pulse on student opinion. Visit the BIN at: www.bin.baylor.edu.
