College Prowler Take
To a lot of people, Baylor and Waco are a complete anomaly. The same girls that run in the social hookup circles on Friday night are taking you to church with them on Sunday. The guys practice the requisite Christian business principles, but blow through the Baylor babes that are in endless supply. That’s not to say they’ll never grow-up, but this is a general picture. The school is known for having an abnormal amount of attractive people, especially women. In terms of sexual promiscuity, keep one thing in mind—it’s college, but it’s also Baylor. While at other schools you can find whatever you’re looking for, the same goes for here, you just might have to look a little harder. You can find some incredibly balanced, open-minded, welcoming people here, but just beware because Baylor has a penchant for smoke and mirrors. Don’t get fooled, and be on the look out for husband hunters. Going to school in the South is all about appearances. You'll definitely find your stereotypical “Southern belles” and “Southern gentlemen.” Because it is a Christian school, the administration and school handbook do not condone pre-marital anything. It is, for instance, against school policy for male and female students who are not married to live together, even if it is off campus. At Baylor it is much less rare to find 23-year-old, socially awkward virgins than it might be in a public institution. Generally, though, it’s all about finding your niche and having a good time. Try to keep your head about things.

The guys and girls are both very good-looking, especially in the School of Business. Eating disorders are known to be prevalent on campus, though. Most of the students come from well-off families. |

Many guys and girls at Baylor are from privileged backgrounds, or worked very hard to reach their goals at college. I am disappointed that students weren’t more active in political issues or taking active roles at their school. I think much reasoning for this is heavy work loads, but also because Baylor has strict rules and often punishes or shuns students that are different and break stereotypes. Many students conform or keep to themselves. As far as looks, students dress well, often in pricier clothes. There are some cute boys, but many preppy boys that are too pretty for my taste. |

It’s college, so there is something for everybody. The guys are all pretty laid-back and chill, with a wide variety of types to choose from, but Baylor is famous for their women. Nine out of every ten is fine. There are generally four types: the ones that don’t party or have any fun, and are in college to learn only; the ones that love Jesus with all their heart and that’s all they are about; the ones that always want to party; and the ones that are only here to snag a husband. They should be avoided like the plague, unless you are the type of guy looking to settle down and hand off your balls freshman year. |

Baylor is a great place for men—to find ladies that is. It is not such a good place for ladies to find a guy. |

The guys are good looking for the most part, although all they want is one of two things: to take you to church, or take you to bed. There really isn’t an in between. As far as the girls go, almost all of them are attractive, but most of them just need to eat. |

Social Scene
Interacting on campus is incredibly easy. Join a club, go to a mixer, and presto; you're in the middle of a conversation. Living in the dorms is enough to score you some friends just by default. It is difficult, though, for the under-21 crowd because most of the bars in Waco don't cater to 18-and-up. Frats throw some hellacious parties on the weekend, if you're looking for a place to meet people but need some liquid courage. Most of the interactions on campus take place at parties, mixers, or with friends of a friend. The majority of students here are universally social, because there just isn't that much to do if you're not. Even the introverts have extroverted friends that drag them out on a cold day in Waco.
Hookups or Relationships?
Depending on your definition of a hookup, there are plenty. Talk to one person and hookups equate a steamy scandalous make-out session leading to a near sexual experience, but ask others and a hookup means, without a doubt, casual sex. Hookups are common, but it is college after all. If you're looking for the hookup, also known as the booty call, chill at the club scene. Waco is small enough that if you go out every night you'll recognize the same people, in the same social circles, all looking for the same things. Some of these hookups have led to relationships, but that is generally a backward practice to the socially acceptable natural progression of things. The biggest rule of the South is that you don't talk about it. It's one of those things where everyone knows what is going on, but it's considered taboo to blurt it out. If you want a one-night-stand, you're going to have to "church it up." Baylor is renowned for its girls coming here to get their “Mrs. degrees”—looking for a ring to change their title of Ms. to Mrs. Many of the girls here are engaged by their junior or senior year, and planning a wedding for right after graduation. Other girls have what they call “imports,” meaning they’ve come to Baylor with their boyfriend from home, and still others have the standard bumper sticker proclaiming their other halves are Aggies (attend Texas A&M University). Guys here tend to be outgoing enough to approach a girl in a social setting or find out they have a mutual friend in common. The Southern gentleman is definitely a mindset that will keep even the bravest on their best behavior. Some still have girlfriends in high school when they come here but are usually single by their sophomore year. The biggest thing about Baylor, if you’re not looking for a ring or a wife, is that it is all about having a good time. Sex on Monday, redemption on Sunday, just keep it on the down-low. Most relationships happen here as upperclassmen and are friend-of-a-friend set-ups.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
The best way to meet members of the opposite sex is to have them in class and set up a group study session. Even if there is no one in your group you're interested in, chances are they have a single friend that might catch your eye, and long study sessions equal a consecutive night of partying. The other best way is to grab your friends and hit the bars. You're likely to run into a casual acquaintance who is with a group you've never met and can set you up, or at least run through the introductions and break the ice. Greek life, or even joining different clubs, is another easy way to meet people. Fraternities and sororities, Greek or not, often have mixers, and do joint service projects that offer great opportunities for interaction.
Dress Code
The dress here is ultra-causal. You’ll typically see girls around campus in North Face jackets, Nike running shorts, or designer jeans, while guys opt for khakis and T-shirts. It's easy to tell who's trying too hard to be ultra-trendy.
