College Prowler Take
This campus is, by far, one of the safest places to be. You’ll see students running the Bear Trail, a two-and-a-half-mile trail around the perimeter of campus, at all hours of the night. The call boxes are easy to spot, and the campus is well lit. Off campus is a slightly different story. Two blocks off campus, you’ll find low-income housing, the industrial side of town, a strip club, a liquor store, and Dr. Daddy (a well-known local who frequents Baylor parties uninvited). For the most part, you’ll never be bothered because Campus Police patrol the off-campus area regularly. Leave your car on campus for weeks at a time, and it’ll still be fine. Leave your bike chained for days at a time, and it’ll still be there. Do the same thing off campus, and you may not be as lucky. The library has a lost and found where people have turned in laptops, wallets, flash drives, and calculators. Most of the disturbances and arrests near campus are theft, vandalization, and underage drinking. When it comes to parking illegally, don’t do it. If you’re lucky, and you’re just running in-and-out of a building, you might not get caught, but Campus Police employs officers on bike, foot, and in patrol cars looking to catch you doing anything—on or off campus. They are generally regarded as over-indulgent when it comes to off-campus parties, but the officers aren’t pretentious. They know this is a college town, so if you’re respectful, they’ll usually cut you some slack.

The campus always feels safe, but with the surrounding areas being how they are, you can never be too sure. There have been a lot of cars broken into. |

Security and safety on campus are decent. Most of the time I feel safe, but every once in a while you hear about some incident that makes you fear for your life while venturing to the library in the middle of the night. |

It is very safe during the day, but students are not advised to go anywhere alone after dark. |

The Baylor Police Department is more there to give you parking tickets than to prevent your car from being broken into or stolen. Dorm security is pretty safe—all the doors are locked, and the only way you can get in is through the lobby, which has a night guard. I suggest you get to know him. |

Campus Patrol is all around, but sometimes they get bored, so you see one kid getting pulled over by eight cops or something similarly ridiculous to that. But hey, that kid is safe! |
