Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is a joke on the Baylor campus that you don’t have to ask anyone where they’re from, because the answer will inevitably be Houston, Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio. Granted, it’s a pretty lame joke, but with few exceptions it is very appropriate, which is a huge perk when it comes to traveling. If you’re from out of state, it isn’t hard at all to find or make some friends that live in the town your airport is in. There’s no need to live like a vagabond and thumb a ride. It’s also great to go home with said friends for a change of scenery and to get out of Waco. If all of the above fails, in the SUB there is a “ride board,” a paper version of hitchhiking, where people seeking and offering rides post where they are going and the date they need to go. If that still fails, there is always the Waco Streak. It runs seven days a week, but check with the Streak before you book your ticket, because if you fly a red-eye, you might spend the night in the airport.

It’s cheaper to fly straight out of DFW and get wherever you need to go. The Waco Airport has two flight lines: one to Dallas and the other to Houston, so if you’re stuck here without a car you can still get where you’re going. That’s the biggest drawback to living in a medium-sized town, but on the plus side, with the majority of student calling any of the large towns home, it’s never very difficult to call a friend for a ride.

Buses and Cars and Walking Oh My!

There are many ways of transportation to Baylor University. The most popular way to travel to school is by using the Baylor buses. There are three different routes and travel all around campus. All the designated stops for buses have approximately ten minute intervals before the next arrival time. It's free and convenient! There are parking garages if you live away from campus and wish to travel by car. Parking may be a hassle if you drive a few minutes before your next class but other than that you can find a parking spot. People who do live on campus, such as the dorms, walk to their classes or ride their bikes. If you do decide to walk on campus, you can get anywhere on campus fifteen minutes or less. At night if you do not feel like walking to your car across campus there are Emergency Box telephones all around campus.

Baylor provides free buses/shuttles around campus for their students :) They come around about every 10 minutes and most of the bus drivers are very polite.

Transportation

Public transportation is really good around Baylor. They have buses running all the time, and if you need a bus to pick you up late at night, then there’s a number you can call, and they’ll come get you whenever you need them. They even take you to local shopping centers!
