Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Belmont’s drug policy is incredibly strict. In addition to being a dry campus, the University has also gone tobacco-free. Students who smoke generally go across the street to Bongo Java in between classes to do so. Some students smoke marijuana, but the drug scene doesn’t go far beyond that. Resident assistants search all dorm rooms and apartments once a semester for contraband, including drugs and alcohol, although they can only search what’s in plain sight. Unfortunately, this makes it pretty easy to hide illegal substances if you have them because the RAs aren’t allowed to open drawers or search inside bags.

However, students who are caught with drugs or any type of drug paraphernalia (shot glasses, bongs, etc.) face severe punishment. The residence director and campus security are alerted, and the student usually has to appear before the student justices for violating Belmont’s Community Code of Conduct. Again, alcohol isn’t allowed on campus no matter how old you may be, so students have to seek it out at off-campus parties. Even at parties thrown by students, underage drinkers have been known to come back to campus with black Xs on their hands. Thankfully, Belmont students still know how to have a good time without alcohol or drugs. One student DJ even started throwing “Good Clean Fun” parties on campus in 2010 as an alternative to the bar-hopping scene.

Private Christian College

Its college so lets face it Drugs are always a issue but due to strict standards and penalties on campus use is pretty small. Off campus though we are in the City of Nashville TN so drugs and alcohol are available to almost anyone searching for that lifestyle.

There's a Drug Scene, but It's Not Everywhere

In a school full of hipsters, of course there are going to be some pot smokers. If people smoke, they do it off campus. (Cigarettes are banned, but most people just go across the street). There have been a few people that have gotten suspended for drugs, but they can come back the next semester. There's not much alcohol visibility either. There's very little alcohol on campus and you'll occasionally see someone staggering around campus at 3AM. But it's not that bad. Basically, unless you want to be a part of that scene, it's not going to be a hindrance at all.

Drugs and Alcohol

This is a clean college campus. Some may choose to use drugs and drink under age, but no one is pressured to and it is mostly off campus that these things occur. If you want to get involved in that sort of activity, you can, but if you don't want to, there are plenty of people with you.
