Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Beloit is not exactly “into” sports. Generally, we’re not very good at them. I think students at Beloit would much rather wrestle with weird trivia than with their bodies. We’re sort of a sit-down campus—watchers, not doers. Intramural sports are definitely big, though, probably because the pressure is off, and people who aren’t that athletic (a good 90 percent of the campus) can run around a little without letting down a team. And if they fall down, hey, it’s okay, so has everybody else. Watch out for Frisbee, and I mean that in the most literal sense—those Frisbees are flying all over the place (right at head level) once spring hits the campus. Who needs a real golf team when you’ve got the Frisbee version?

In defense of the ones that do, in fact, play a sport: the athletes put a lot into their sport. The teams are small so players all have a role, for the most part, and they are consequently more dedicated to their team. So even if they do lose nine times out of ten, they go home with their dignity and team spirit in tact.

Not That Important

People will show up to support their friends. For the most part, athletics are second priority to academics.

Pretty Bad.

Very few people come to this school for their athletics. If you did a sport in high school and want to keep doing it, but don't mind not being on a competitive team, then Beloit would be a good choice. A variety of sports are offered but the school spirit and competition aren't valued.

Eh...

Most of the campus is pretty apathetic towards sports, but apparently this year the administration is putting more money into our varsity athletics so that might change. Ultimate Frisbee is definitely the most popular sport on campus, and it's pretty common to see lots of groups of people throwing a frisbee around during class.
